Recent polling underscores broad support for President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, as detailed by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. She noted on social media that a significant 78% of Americans back the deportation of immigrants who are in the country illegally and have committed crimes. Furthermore, 56% expressed support for deporting all illegal immigrants. Leavitt emphasized, “President Trump’s efforts to Make America Safe Again are very popular!”
The data Leavitt referenced comes from a Harvard Caps/Harris poll conducted between October 1 and 2, which surveyed 2,413 registered voters and carried a margin of error of ± 1.99 points. The White House’s official X Rapid Response account reiterated that “a majority of Americans support nearly every one of President Trump’s policies.” This includes notable measures such as lowering prescription drug prices, which received an impressive 86% approval, and efforts to eliminate fraud, waste, and abuse in federal spending, which garnered 75% support.
Additional policy initiatives show similar backing. A proposal to make the provisions of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanent garnered 62% support. Perhaps the most contested of Trump’s recent strategies—involving the deployment of the National Guard to assist in police duties—has managed to attract 51% approval from the public.
CNN data analyst Harry Enten also weighed in, noting that 52% of Americans believe Trump is fulfilling his campaign promises from last year. Enten’s analysis suggests that the media narrative surrounding Trump may not align with public opinion. “The left should buckle up for what they are about to hear,” he remarked, citing favorable responses from a majority of Americans. This aligns with CNN’s findings, which indicate stable and steady support for Trump, with many maintaining consistent views about his efficacy in office.
According to Enten, Trump maintains a favorable rating that rivals or surpasses recent presidential incumbents. In October 2024, Trump’s approval was at 44%, a slight decline to 43% now, but still indicative of a reliable support base. His numbers compare favorably to former President Barack Obama’s ratings, with Trump currently at 44.9% in the Real Clear Polling average, edging above Obama, who had 44.3% at a similar stage in his presidency.
Trump’s approval ratings have clearly remained remarkably steady throughout his presidency, particularly in comparison to Obama’s more volatile favorability ratings. At different times during his tenure, Obama saw higher highs and lower lows—peaking at 52.5% during his second term while also dipping to 43.5%. In contrast, Trump’s support remained closely aligned to where it was a year prior, demonstrating a resilient base amid national fluctuations.
This polling data reflects an unyielding confidence among voters regarding Trump’s direction on immigration and other policy fronts. As the administration moves forward, the challenge for both Trump and his critics will be to respond to these public sentiments effectively, particularly with upcoming elections on the horizon. The data suggests that, at least for now, Trump’s core policies resonate with a substantial portion of the American electorate, highlighting the continuing impact of his agenda in shaping public opinion.
