In a recent escalation of tensions, GOP House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer is pushing for contempt of Congress proceedings against Bill and Hillary Clinton. This potential legal battle stems from the Clintons’ failure to respond to subpoenas related to the committee’s investigation into the Epstein scandal.

The controversy dates back to July 2025, when a bipartisan subcommittee approved subpoenas for various high-profile individuals linked to Jeffrey Epstein and his widely criticized operations. The Clintons were among those subpoenaed in early August, scheduled to testify on December 17 and 18. However, they have since chosen not to comply, prompting Congress to consider its next steps.

Rep. Comer did not hold back in his remarks about the Clintons’ nonresponse. He stated, “It has been more than four months since Bill and Hillary Clinton were subpoenaed. Throughout that time, the former president and former secretary of state have delayed, obstructed, and largely ignored the committee staff’s efforts to schedule their testimony.” His frustration is evident, as he views their lack of cooperation as a blatant attempt to sidestep accountability.

The Republican congressman has drawn a firm line, insisting the Clintons either appear as scheduled or seek a new date in early January. “If the Clintons fail to appear for their depositions next week or schedule a date for early January, the Oversight Committee will begin contempt of Congress proceedings to hold them accountable,” Comer warned.

A spokesperson for the Clinton Foundation responded by suggesting that Rep. Comer should clarify the status of a letter they allegedly sent him. This has only fueled the argument that the Clintons are using delaying tactics to evade the deposition. Comer’s office has emphasized that the former First Couple believes they are above the law, further complicating the situation.

As this situation unfolds, the stakes are high. The timeline for compliance is rapidly approaching, and it remains to be seen how the Clintons will respond. Rep. Comer has made it clear that time is of the essence, saying, “They’ve been dragging their feet for over four months. Time’s up.” This stern warning sets the stage for what could be a significant legal confrontation.

Ultimately, the question remains whether the Clintons will adhere to the committee’s demands or escalate this legal battle further.
