In a striking case of deception, former Baton Rouge Judge Tiffany Foxworth-Roberts has been removed from her position after a series of fabrications surfaced during her 2020 campaign for office. The decision, made by the Louisiana Supreme Court in a close 4-3 vote, marks a rare instance of a judge losing their seat for misconduct in the state, a rarity not seen for 16 years. Foxworth-Roberts, who only won her position by a slim margin of 27 votes, faced serious repercussions for her actions.

The controversy revolves around her claims of military service. Foxworth-Roberts falsely represented herself as a combat veteran of Desert Storm and claimed to have achieved the rank of Army Captain. Justice Jay McCallum, one of the judges on the Supreme Court, criticized her for her “tortured explanations and excuses” when confronted about her lies. He pointed out that her lack of accountability demonstrated little, if any, genuine remorse for her actions.

In her campaign advertisements, Foxworth-Roberts donned military attire and boasted about her supposed experiences on the front lines. However, an investigation revealed a troubling truth: she had never seen combat and had never been deployed overseas. Her initial resistance to releasing her military records only fueled suspicions. Once they were eventually disclosed, they debunked her claims. She attempted to justify her fabricated narrative by stating she worked with veterans at Walter Reed Medical Center, suggesting that this somehow qualified her to speak on combat experiences.

The judge’s dishonesty extended beyond her military background. In another incident, Foxworth-Roberts filed an insurance claim for $40,000 in stolen items, allegedly taken during a break-in. The situation surrounding this claim proved equally convoluted. While claiming the theft occurred outside her home during a campaign stop, police bodycam footage revealed a stark contrast in her story. The details of the items reported stolen also differed between her police reports and her insurance claim, raising further questions about her honesty and integrity.

This pattern of deceit ultimately cost Foxworth-Roberts her position, highlighting serious implications for trust in the judiciary. With a notable record of lying about her military service and facing scrutiny over her claims of theft, the removal of her judgeship serves as a reminder of the accountability expected from those holding public office. The transparency and integrity of judges are paramount in maintaining public confidence in the legal system.
