Progressive Representative Jasmine Crockett from Texas is challenging President Donald Trump’s aggressive immigration policies with a new piece of legislation. Dubbed the “Transparency Requirements for Aircraft Carriers to Know Immigration Conduct and Enforcement Act,” or the TRACK ICE Act, this bill seeks to impose stricter transparency mandates on federal flights involved in immigration enforcement.
Crockett, accompanied by her colleague Representative Dan Goldman from New York, introduced the bill to enhance oversight on detention and deportation flights operated by the federal government. According to Crockett, “For far too long, the federal government has operated immigration flights without full transparency. These ghost flights are tearing families apart, leaving loved ones in the dark, and giving immigration agencies free rein to act without oversight, transparency, and justice.” Her call for increased accountability within federal agencies reflects ongoing concerns over the lack of oversight in the current immigration system.
The urgency behind the legislation stems from heightened tensions and public outcry following a tragic incident in Minneapolis. There, an ICE agent fatally shot 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, an event that has brought national attention to the operations of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. While some in the Trump administration characterized Good as obstructing ICE’s work at the time of her death, many Democrats believe the agent’s actions were reckless and worthy of investigation. This incident underscores the growing scrutiny of ICE’s operational conduct and its repercussions on community safety and immigrant rights.
Crockett’s proposed legislation aims to require the public disclosure of information regarding immigration flights within a 72-hour timeframe. Key details, such as aircraft identification codes, flight times, and the specifics of the ICE Air missions, would need to be made available to the public. Importantly, the bill also seeks to disclose information about detainees, including nationality, age group, sex, and family status.
Critics of this transparency initiative argue that too much disclosure could jeopardize the safety of ICE agents and those targeted during operations. However, advocates for the bill argue that the current system provides ICE with almost unchecked authority. The stark increase in deportation flights, reportedly rising by 44% from 2024 to 2025, adds weight to the argument that ICE operates with excessive impunity.
Fox News Digital has reached out to the Department of Homeland Security for a comment on the bill, reflecting the ongoing debate around immigration enforcement and the transparency of federal agencies. As the political landscape surrounding immigration continues to evolve, Crockett’s TRACK ICE Act embodies a call for greater accountability and oversight in an area of intense public interest.
