Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos updated the public on the ongoing investigation into the abduction of Nancy Guthrie. On Monday, he cleared Guthrie’s family members as potential suspects, a significant development given that her son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, was the last known person to see her alive. This announcement was essential for alleviating concerns about the family’s involvement as the case grows increasingly complex.
The FBI recently conducted a raid on a property located two miles from Guthrie’s home but found no substantial evidence linking it to the crime. While three individuals were detained during this operation, law enforcement has not yet made any arrests. The search for a suspect continues, now more than two weeks after Nancy Guthrie was abducted from her residence.
“The Guthrie family — to include all siblings and spouses — has been cleared as possible suspects in this case,” Sheriff Nanos stated. His emphasis on the family’s cooperation is crucial, especially considering the emotional toll such an incident has on relatives. “The family has been nothing but cooperative and gracious and are victims in this case. To suggest otherwise is not only wrong… it is cruel. The Guthrie family are victims plain and simple,” he asserted, reinforcing the notion that they should not be subject to suspicion during this traumatic time.
As the investigation unfolds, Savannah Guthrie, Nancy’s daughter, reached out to the person responsible for her mother’s disappearance. In a poignant message shared publicly, she expressed a mix of hope and desperation. “It’s been two weeks since our mom was taken, and I just wanted to come on and say that we still have hope… and we still believe,” Savannah said. Her heartfelt plea underscored the emotional strain on the family as they navigate the unknowns of a painful situation. “It’s never too late to do the right thing… and we are here,” she added, focusing on the importance of compassion and the potential for resolution.
A breakthrough may be on the horizon. The FBI announced that one of the gloves found near Nancy Guthrie’s home matches a glove worn by a figure seen in a disturbing porch doorbell video. This finding creates a tangible lead in the case as the agency has recovered DNA from an unknown male linked to the glove. Those results are currently being processed in hopes of identifying the suspect.
As the public awaits further developments, the investigation has highlighted the emotional anguish experienced by the Guthrie family and the complexities of abduction cases. The law enforcement community continues to urge any relevant tips that could aid in bringing Nancy home.
