Jenny Rae Le Roux, cousin of Democratic Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger, has declared her candidacy for the U.S. House representing California’s 47th Congressional District. This announcement comes as Le Roux aims to flip a blue seat red, a district currently held by first-term Democratic Rep. Dave Min. Le Roux frames her campaign as an effort to better represent the district, which she believes is not receiving the attention it deserves from its current representative.

“I’m running because I love this district,” Le Roux told Fox News Digital. “I love California, and I don’t think that Dave Min has represented this district in a way that people are excited about.” Her candidacy is part of broader Republican efforts to protect their slim majority in the House as the 2026 midterm elections approach.

The district, known for its diverse communities, including Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, and Newport Beach, is becoming a focal point for the National Republican Congressional Committee. Le Roux is one of four Republicans vying for the nomination in the upcoming primary scheduled for June 2. Her comments reflect a sentiment in the district, as she critiques Min for presenting himself as a moderate during his campaign while aligning with progressive policies since taking office. “A lot of my district is actually not that interested in progressive politics,” she emphasized, suggesting a disconnect between constituents’ needs and government performance.

Le Roux also draws parallels to her cousin Spanberger, whom she claims also ran as a moderate but has governed as a progressive. This familial relationship adds a personal layer to her campaign, as she hopes to resonate with local voters by showcasing shared values and experiences. “I’ve watched her bent toward public service, which is something we both share,” she stated, reflecting on their backgrounds and joint connections to community service and patriotism.

Her activism was sparked by the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. “What really activated me into politics was COVID,” she explained. This experience, coupled with dissatisfaction directed toward Governor Gavin Newsom’s handling of the pandemic and other state issues, fueled her desire to seek political office. With a history of political aspirations, Le Roux previously ran for governor in California but did not succeed. However, her current position as director of CAL DOGE highlights her commitment to uncovering government inefficiencies.

“Cal DOGE has been eye opening. Washington enables the same dysfunction and corruption that is hurting California,” she remarked, addressing the need for accountability and transparency in government operations. Le Roux’s campaign priorities emphasize fiscal conservatism and a push for local control, reflecting her belief that solutions to current problems must come from outside traditional political circles.

Despite their political differences, Le Roux expresses admiration for her cousin, stating, “I love her… I congratulate her when she wins races. And I pray for her.” She acknowledges the complexities of their familial relationship amidst a political rift, indicating an openness to dialogue despite ideological differences. This personal connection may resonate with voters who value both traditional beliefs and the importance of maintaining communication across political divides.

With the race heating up in California’s 47th District, Le Roux’s campaign will likely continue to focus on the disconnect she perceives between local needs and current representation. As election day nears, her commitment to her causes and the community she prides herself on serving will be tested in a district poised for potential political shifts.
