Democratic elected officials and far-left activists have created a storm around Delaney Hall, an ICE detention facility in Newark, New Jersey. The chaos sparked by this situation is steeped in misinformation, a disgraceful campaign based almost entirely on untruths.

The trouble began Memorial Day weekend when Sen. Andy Kim, D-N.J., marched alongside Antifa members under their banner. He was pepper-sprayed during the confrontation, a moment seized upon by those eager to dramatize the events. Within two days, Reps. Jerry Nadler and Dan Goldman of New York simply walked into the facility, where tensions had already escalated, igniting protests that have continued every night.

The core of the uproar can be traced to five significant falsehoods meant to incite division and violence.

The first assertion is that conditions at Delaney Hall are inhumane. This claim launched the wave of Antifa-led agitation. Critics failed to provide credible evidence to back up their assertions. In fact, Fox News obtained the facility’s menu, showcasing meals that appear more palatable than what many campers might eat. Various Democratic officials have inspected Delaney Hall, yet no one has detailed any severe allegations beyond vague reports. The silence is telling; perhaps the conditions are not as dire as claimed.

The second outrageous suggestion is that ICE agents wish for confrontation with protesters. Governor Mikie Sherrill of New Jersey floated this unfounded idea, implying that law enforcement desires to provoke violence to justify increased presence. This deeply flawed reasoning raises eyebrows. Who would want to be attacked while doing their job? Sherrill, despite her initial misguided assumptions, has acknowledged the role of out-of-state agitators in the unrest. However, doing so has left her scrambling to defend her position against backlash from her own party.

The third lie claims that state police were deployed to protect protesters from ICE agents. In reality, it is the protesters who are disrupting the work of federal agents, hurling racial slurs and wielding bricks. The collaboration between ICE and state police has been essential in managing the situation. The narrative that frames the protests as an innocent struggle against authoritarianism is misleading; the truth is that ICE and law enforcement are working to maintain order against the very real threat posed by agitators.

Next is the assertion that the Department of Homeland Security backed down on visitation rights due to pressure from lawmakers and activists. Democratic leaders like Rep. LeMonica McIver claim victory for reopening visitation, but fail to mention that the original suspension was due to violence perpetrated by those same protesters. This attempt to save face comes after a week of chaos that could have been avoided if responsible leaders had condemned the actions of those inciting violence.

Finally, the overarching theme among Democrats is the insistence that ICE must be abolished. They offer no viable alternatives for enforcing immigration law, suggesting they merely wish to disregard established policies altogether. Rather than proposing a more humane way to handle immigration, the call to disband ICE reflects a troubling trend that could lead to an absence of enforcement.

As time progresses, the lies propagated by the left will likely resurface as facts in public discourse. It is crucial to recognize and challenge these assertions when they arise. Not confronting these falsehoods allows them to gain traction and repeat in media narratives. The ongoing lies and chaos must no longer be accepted; standing firm against misinformation is vital for public trust and accountability.
