Agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are ramping up their efforts to detain and deport illegal immigrants. In response, some lawmakers are expressing fierce opposition. One such figure is Representative Rosa DeLauro, a Democrat from Connecticut, known for her progressive stances and distinctive purple hair.

Recently, DeLauro went on the offensive following a report on X claiming she would not commit to cutting ICE funding. In a video posted to her account, she vehemently rejected the notion, asserting, “I do not support an increase in funding for ICE.” Her response was fueled by a post from the “NewsWire” X account, which had shared a picture of her alongside the claim, triggering her to take action.

The video features DeLauro in an agitated state, where she calls out what she deems “bad faith reporting.” She emphasizes her position against increasing funding for ICE, stating, “Can I repeat that? I do not support increasing funding for ICE.” Despite her insistence on this point, she sidesteps a clear statement regarding cuts to ICE funding.

Throughout her video, DeLauro attempts to establish her anti-ICE credentials while criticizing the agency itself. She references the “Big, Beautiful Bill,” which allocated substantial funding to ICE during the Trump administration. “President Trump provided $75 billion for ICE in the One Big, Beautiful Bill. I voted against this bill,” she declares, implying her disapproval of the funding that supports the agency’s operations.

Furthermore, DeLauro characterizes ICE agents as “terrorizing” communities, supporting her claim by condemning them for wearing masks during their operations. “ICE is terrorizing our communities, and I’ve called on masked, armed ICE agents to leave our towns, go away,” she snaps, expressing a sentiment of deep frustration and alarm over their presence.

As she wraps up her tirade, DeLauro takes aim at Trump, labeling his approach to law enforcement as “lawless.” “Make no mistake, I’m fighting for you, and I opposed the actions of this continuous, lawless Trump administration,” she asserts, framing her position as one of defense for her constituents against federal law enforcement tactics.

DeLauro’s reaction underscores the ongoing tension surrounding immigration enforcement in America. As ICE continues its operations, the backlash from key political figures like DeLauro shows the divide in opinions regarding immigration policy and law enforcement methods. The issue remains contentious, with strong feelings on both sides about the role of ICE and its approach to handling illegal immigration.
