Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon has taken a firm stand on securing the integrity of American elections, revealing troubling actions by several states that are reportedly withholding crucial Social Security number (SSN) data linked to voter registrations. On Saturday, Dhillon announced the Department of Justice’s intent to sue these states for transparency and to combat potential voter fraud. “The government provides SSNs for voter registration verification. Any SOS hiding behind ‘protect your privacy’ claims is faking and doesn’t care about election integrity,” she stated in a post on X, accompanied by a video offering more insights.

Dhillon emphasized the irony in the claims of privacy from state officials. “Some of the arguments we’ve heard include, ‘Why are you asking for the Social Security number? That’s top-secret information,’” she explained. “The federal government issues the Social Security numbers. It is not top-secret information from us! And we are going to either get these voluntarily or sue!” Her words reflect the DOJ’s broad effort to ensure proper verification of voter eligibility, underscoring that public trust hinges on accurate voter rolls.

The announcement is part of the Justice Department’s ongoing campaign to secure comprehensive voter registration lists from states, which typically include partial SSNs, driver’s license numbers, birth dates, names, and addresses. This verified data is vital for ensuring that only eligible citizens can participate in elections. Yet, some states have chosen to stall compliance, prompting the DOJ to take action. To date, the Justice Department has initiated lawsuits against 24 states and the District of Columbia that have failed to deliver the necessary voter data.

Attorney General Pamela Bondi reiterated the importance of maintaining accurate voter rolls in a press release. “This Department of Justice has now sued 24 states for failing to provide voter roll data and will continue filing lawsuits to protect American elections,” she stated. The emphasis on the foundational role of accurate voter logs resonates in her declaration: “Accurate voter rolls are the foundation of election integrity, and any state that fails to meet this basic obligation of transparency can expect to see us in court.”

Dhillon further stressed the necessity of these measures, stating, “Accurate voter rolls are essential to ensuring that American citizens’ votes count only once, and only with other eligible voters.” Her commitment to upholding election integrity is clear, as she vows to hold states accountable for neglecting federal election laws. The persistent pursuit of compliance by the DOJ highlights the ongoing struggle over voter registration practices, asserting that maintaining the integrity of elections is a priority that will not be compromised.

This scenario raises crucial questions about the balance between privacy and transparency in elections. With public trust hanging in the balance, the push for comprehensive data is a vital step towards ensuring fairness and accountability. As Dhillon prepares to escalate these legal battles, the outcome will likely shape the landscape of American electoral processes moving forward.
