Despite the fierce rhetoric from Democrats, the latest polling reveals a clear disconnect between political leaders and the American public regarding voter ID laws. Even CNN, often viewed as a liberal bastion, has been forced to acknowledge the overwhelming support for these measures.

Harry Enten, a Senior Data Reporter for CNN, laid out the facts during a recent segment. He highlighted that support for voter ID laws consistently surpasses 75%, with recent figures soaring to 83%. This statistic is significant. It indicates a bipartisan consensus that Senate Democrats, including Chuck Schumer, seem to ignore. According to Enten’s analysis, “Voter ID appears to be something of a non-troversy,” meaning that the issue is not as contentious as many claim.

The numbers reflect widespread agreement among voters, spanning party lines and racial demographics. A staggering 95% of Republicans support voter ID laws, but the data shows that Democrats are not far behind; 71% of them back the same laws. Furthermore, support cuts across racial lines: 85% of White voters, 82% of Latino voters, and 76% of Black voters favor ID requirements for voting. This cross-demographic support sharply contradicts the narrative that requiring identification is discriminatory.

During the segment, Jake Tapper confronted Schumer with the hard truth: approximately 83% of Americans support voter ID laws, which includes a solid majority of Democrats. Schumer’s immediate response was to label the proposed SAFE Act as “Jim Crow 2.0,” suggesting that it would disenfranchise millions — particularly poor voters and people of color. He asserted, “They make it so hard to get any voter ID that more than 20 million legitimate people… will not be able to vote under this law.”

Schumer’s claims, however, are increasingly being questioned as the facts don’t support his fearmongering. The statistics indicate that the very voters he claims to protect are, in fact, in favor of taking steps toward election security. This reality has prompted commentators and activists alike to challenge Schumer’s narrative. One such commentator tweeted, “Schumer’s meltdown? ‘IT’S JIM CROW 2.0’ — that’s literally ALL he’s got, zero substance, just tired race baiting. Schumer is trash!”

In light of these developments, the Democrats’ continued opposition to the SAVE Act does not resonate with voters. Instead, it reflects a stubborn adherence to a losing strategy, disregarding the widespread public desire for secure elections. As they label efforts for election integrity as self-serving and discriminatory, the data tells another story. The American people have made their preferences clear, and ignoring them could spell trouble for Democratic leaders like Schumer in the future.
