Lankford challenged the narrative that ICE primarily targets individuals without criminal backgrounds. He highlighted that the claim of just 14% of those arrested having a criminal record is misleading. “To correct the record on a couple of things I’ve heard just even in conversation today,” he stated, drawing attention to the actual statistics. “This number of 14% of the folks who have a criminal record that ICE has detained is actually not an accurate number. That number is 14% of violent criminals. That’s murders and rapes. Seventy percent of the folks that are arrested nationwide have a criminal record.”

Lankford expressed that the residents of his state wish to see all illegal immigrants with criminal records removed from the country. “So 70% of the folks have been arrested nationwide by ICE in the past year…” he emphasized, hinting at widespread public support for these enforcement actions.

He extended gratitude to the men and women of ICE for their sacrifices. “If you pass on a thank you to the men and women that literally put their lives on the line for the sake of the country every single day, I appreciate it,” he said.
