On Friday, jurors reached a mixed verdict in the case against nine individuals involved in a violent incident at an ICE detention facility in North Texas, characterized as an “ambush” attack. The jury deliberated for about a day and a half before announcing their decision at the federal courthouse in Fort Worth, according to FOX 4 News.

Benjamin Song stood out among the defendants. He faced the most severe charge: attempted murder. This conviction stemmed from the shooting of Alvarado Police Lt. Thomas Gross during the July 4, 2025, attack. Prosecutors described the incident as part of a broader plan executed by members of what they labeled a North Texas Antifa cell.

Kash Patel, speaking to Fox News Digital, underscored the FBI’s commitment to dismantle groups like Antifa. “The guilty verdicts in today’s case show this FBI’s 24/7 commitment to identifying, locating, and dismantling ANTIFA members and their networks,” he said. Patel also expressed gratitude toward the Dallas field office, emphasizing the repercussions for those who assault federal law enforcement: “If you attack federal law enforcement, this FBI will use every resource at our disposal to hunt you down.”

Of the other defendants, only Daniel Estrada emerged without a conviction on more serious charges. All but he were found guilty of various counts linked to providing material support to terrorists, rioting, and using explosives during the incident. Estrada, though absent from the scene of the attack, was convicted of conspiring to conceal records.

Song’s case was more complex. While he was convicted of three counts related to firearm use, he was acquitted of two attempted murder charges aimed at employees of the detention center. Meanwhile, co-defendants Zachary Evetts, Autumn Hill, Meagan Morris, and Maricela Rueda were acquitted on several serious counts, including attempted murder.

The July 4 attack was reportedly more than just a chaotic display of protest. Authorities indicated that it involved fireworks, damage to property, and gunfire aimed at law enforcement. The orchestration of the event reflected a coordinated effort that prosecutors argue was deeply rooted in an organized agenda.

The outcome of this trial sheds light on the ongoing tensions surrounding law enforcement and protest movements. With mixed verdicts, it raises questions about accountability and the nature of protests that escalate into violence.
