Chad Bianco, Riverside County Sheriff and a candidate for California governor, has stirred considerable controversy by seizing over 650,000 ballots from the November election. This action is part of an investigation into alleged discrepancies within the county’s vote count. The Riverside Election Integrity Team has claimed that the tally could have been inflated by more than 45,000 votes.
At a press conference, Bianco established his mission clearly: “This investigation is simple: Physically count the ballots and compare that result with the total votes recorded.” He stressed the importance of accuracy in elections, saying, “There is no acceptable error, small or large, in our elections.” His determination reflects a firm stance on electoral integrity.
The investigation specifically targets ballots associated with Proposition 50, which successfully passed in Riverside County with a notable 56 percent approval. The reported margin was over 82,000 votes. Riverside County’s Registrar of Voters, Art Tinoco, responded to allegations by suggesting they arose from a misunderstanding. He stated the actual discrepancy amounted to just 103 votes—an extremely small percentage.
Bianco clarified that this is not a recount but a thorough verification process that serves both to confirm the results and uncover any inaccuracies. “It is just as much to prove the election is accurate as it is to show otherwise… we will not know until the count is complete,” he remarked.
