In a recent House Oversight Committee hearing, two former associates of Jeffrey Epstein, Richard Kahn and Darren Indyke, made troubling claims about the investigation into Epstein’s notorious activities. Both men indicated that they had never been interviewed by the Department of Justice regarding Epstein’s extensive network of crimes. Their testimonies raise serious questions about the thoroughness of the investigation into Epstein and those within his circle.

Kahn, who served as Epstein’s accountant, stated, “I’ve never been questioned by any government authority.” His lack of interaction with investigators is particularly concerning given the prominence of Epstein’s operations. Kahn did receive requests from the Southern District of New York and the U.S. Virgin Islands for documents related to Epstein’s estate, including his will and trustee documents, but those requests did not lead to any inquiry into his knowledge of Epstein’s criminal activities.

Indyke, Epstein’s lawyer, echoed Kahn’s sentiments, stating he had also never been asked about Epstein’s dealings. “Personally no,” he responded when pressed by the committee. This raises further questions about why individuals directly involved with Epstein have not been interrogated more rigorously. Indyke maintained that given his role as a transactional attorney for Epstein, he did not find it surprising that the government had not approached him for questioning.

Epstein’s death in 2019, ruled a suicide while he awaited trial for sex trafficking minors, left a cloud of suspicion lingering over numerous powerful figures. The aftermath of his death ignited calls for accountability from those connected to him, but as of now, the investigation appears to lack the necessary depth. Figures like former President Bill Clinton and Ghislaine Maxwell have already testified, yet so far, no charges have surfaced against most of those involved, apart from Maxwell, who was convicted in 2022 for her role in sex trafficking.

Both Kahn and Indyke appear in the recently released Epstein Files, part of documents made public under the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Their communications, while noted, do not indicate any wrongdoing on their part. The Oversight Committee has questioned several high-profile individuals, but the apparent lack of serious inquiry into Kahn and Indyke is disconcerting, suggesting a gap in the broader investigation.

Indyke did mention his awareness of Epstein’s controversial 2008 plea deal, whereby Epstein admitted to soliciting a minor for prostitution. “He was adamant that he had no idea that anyone involved was underage,” Indyke recalled, reflecting on how he had believed Epstein’s assurances that he would not reoffend. Such testimonies reveal a troubling blindness toward the history of Epstein’s actions and may exemplify a broader trend among those in Epstein’s circle who chose to ignore the signs of his criminal behavior.

Kahn appeared to share a similar narrative. He stated that Epstein had convinced him his 2006 arrest was a misunderstanding, asserting he had no knowledge of the underage status of the girl involved and that such incidents would not recur. “Had I learned of his horrific behavior, I would have quit work immediately,” Kahn said, revealing the naive trust he had in Epstein’s words. Such statements suggest a shocking level of denial, highlighting how Epstein was able to weave a web of deceit that ensnared those around him.

The hearings and information shared by both Kahn and Indyke reflect a crucial aspect of the Epstein case — the need for accountability among all who were connected to him. While some individuals have faced scrutiny, it remains to be seen if the investigation into Epstein’s circle will ultimately lead to justice for the countless victims affected by his actions. This case continues to unfold, and with it, the hope for a resolution that answers lingering questions remains a pressing concern.
