Whose fault is it that gang members are murdering each other in the streets of Chicago, crazy homeless people are stabbing each other in LA and San Francisco, and violent felons prey upon other criminals and law-abiding citizens in New York?
Bizarrely, Calfornia Governor Gavin Newsom is pinning the blame on red states, saying that America right now is suffering from a “red state murder problem.” Someone needs to let those gangsters in Chiraq know that they’re Republicans now!
That “red state murder problem” came when Newsom spoke with Elex Michaelson, host of The Issue Is podcast, on the occasion of the Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles.
Though he acknowledged that Democrats are somewhat to blame for rising crime in San Francisco, Newsom claimed that really it’s red states to blame and red states that have a murder problem, saying:
There are cities all across the country with those same issues. What’s interesting is how focused we are on a number of California cities. I mean, there was just an analysis of the 65 cities with the highest murder rates. California had two cities. L.A. and San Francisco weren’t even on the list.
And two-thirds of the cities were in Republican states. I mean, you look at the murder rates in the United States of America — this is not to abdicate any of our responsibility here in California — we own it, and we have to take responsibility for doing more, better, but what’s going on with the red state murder problem in America?
Eight of the top states with the fastest-growing murder rates in America are Republican states — really nine, when you consider one of those two, happens to be Georgia. That’s a fact. You look at places like Bakerfield, California. Kern County is the murder capital of California. Kern County. Republican sheriff, Republican D.A., Republican mayors, Kevin McCarthy’s backyard. But that’s not what you’re seeing on the nightly news.
The empty-skulled socialist representative from New York, AOC, made much the same point in a recent tweet in response to Jim Jordan, saying:
According to CBS News out of the Top 10 deadliest cities in America, 7 of them are in Republican-run states.
Now, follow-up question: were you one of the members who sought a pardon after Jan 6th? I didn’t.
The problem is that, though the report referenced does show that the murder rate is highest in many red-state cities, it’s not exactly Republicans that are ruling those cities.
Who “governs” the cities referenced in the report? Though Republicans are in charge of a few, such as Oklahoma City, it’s Democrat governors that rule over the vast majority.
Hence why the “red state murder problem” line is ridiculous; sure, Republicans share some blame for now pacifying these cities. But it’s not Republicans that are generally murdering each other over a crack deal gone bad in a government housing project in downtown Atlanta, nor is it a Republican mayor who lets that happen in his or her city.
It’s Democrat voters that are shooting each other and Democrat mayors letting it happen.
