Appearing on Fox News Channel to discuss the FBI and what it has been up to, former Assistant US Attorney Andy McCarthy skewered the agency that many Americans now see as Joe Biden’s personal Gestapo, saying that it has a long history of politicized behavior and is far from just being an unbiased law enforcement agency.
Speaking on that, McCarthy first noted how the FBI’s history as J Edgar Hoover’s politicized force should inform our understanding of it at the present, noting that it has always been politicized even if the situation now seems worse because it was somewhat less obvious in the late 20th Century. In his words:
“I think it’s deeper than that, though, John. You know, the FBI started out as the embodiment of J. Edgar Hoover and an entire history of politicized behavior that we hoped in the 1980s and 1990s the Bureau had kind of grown out of.”
Continuing, he went on to comment on why the FBI has probably drifted back toward being the politicized force of Hoover’s days and away from the better reputation it gained in the 80s and 90s, noting that the war on terror was probably to blame, saying:
“But I think in the era of jihadist terrorism, they lost the police force and became the intelligence force and a very different discipline and I think it has given them less respect for the due process standards, the Bill of Rights protections that are really the heartbeat of criminal law enforcement.”
Concluding his argument, he noted that those changes have changed the culture at the FBI and made it comfortable with getting involved in political matters, saying:
“And that’s what I think you have to worry about, that the bureau’s culture has changed, and that they are overly comfortable getting involved in politics when we should want them a million miles away from politics.”
McCarthy isn’t the only one to call out the FBI for turning into a gang of political hacks. Many on the GOP side of things have turned on the FBI following the absurd Mar-a-Lago raid as well, with Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York, for example, saying that the raid is evidence of “Joe Biden and his administration’s weaponization of the Department of Justice and FBI against Joe Biden’s political opponent.”
Further, Rep. Stefanik added that “The FBI raid of President Trump is a complete abuse and overreach of its authority.”
Meanwhile, losers like Liz Cheney have been defending the FBI, with Liz taking to Twitter to say “I have been ashamed to hear members of my party attacking the integrity of the FBI agents involved with the recent Mar-a-Lago search. These are sickening comments that put the lives of patriotic public servants at risk.”
