Senator Mitch McConnell has gone full RINO in his fight to maintain a good spot on the DC cocktail party circuit by demanding the GOP engage in “bipartisan” dealmaking and go along with the Democrat omnibus spending bill. He calls it negotiating and compromise, people with even a single wrinkle on their brain call it being a corrupt coward and backing down.
And not only is he selling his constituents and the GOP voter base down the river by backing down, but he’s ignoring them because he wants more aid for a corrupt Eastern European country.
Describing what he sees as America’s “number one priority” right now, McConnell said:
“Providing assistance for Ukrainians to defeat the Russians is the number one priority for the United States right now according to most Republicans. That’s sort of how we see the challenges confronting the country at the moment.”

Townhall, pointing out how utterly absurd McConnell’s statement is given what’s going on in the country right now and what needs fixing, said:
Not securing the U.S.-Mexico border to stem the flow of illegal immigrants into the United States or prevent deadly fentanyl and dangerous traffickers from exploiting the open border? Not ending the tax-and-spend policies from Democrats that have driven inflation to 40-year highs? Not restarting America’s energy resource industry to make the United States independent from the whims of foreign leaders and their wars? Not rebuking the woke “social justice” reform movement and the district attorneys who’ve set violent criminals loose on America’s streets?
McConnell’s Omnibus backdown “strategy” is so horrible that it’s drawn even the ire of normally milquetoast Republicans and conservatives.
Heritage Action, the lobbying arm of the conservative but hardly radical Heritage Foundation, for example, skewered the Omnibus bill in a statement, saying:
Our country does not want more of the same Biden-Schumer-Pelosi agenda, and the American people made that clear at the ballot box this past November. The Left knows their priorities are unpopular with the American people, so they are trying to pass this package in a lame-duck Congress to force their agenda on the country for another year.
This omnibus package represents the very worst of Washington: back-room deals, $1.85 trillion dollar spending bills full of pet projects and partisan priorities, and an Establishment more interested in their own power than the wellbeing of the American people. The GOP must stand united in their opposition to this bill. Any member who supports this bill will show the American people that they are unserious about their promises of curbing spending, securing the border, and standing up for our families and businesses.
Similarly, Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s joined a number of other House conservatives in vowing to tank anything the Senate, including the Senate GOP does, if it signs the Omnibus bill. Making that vow in a letter, the group said:
We are obliged to inform you that if any omnibus passes in the remaining days of this Congress, we will oppose and whip opposition to any legislation priority of those senators who vote for this bill – including the Republican leader,”

Rep. McCarthy, who will likely be the Speaker of the House come January, agreed with the group on Twitter, saying:
“Agreed. Except no need to whip—when I’m Speaker, their bills will be dead on arrival in the House if this nearly $2T monstrosity is allowed to move forward over our objections and the will of the American people.”
