Tiger Woods just got hit with a lawsuit by his ex-girlfriend, Erica Herman, for $30 million.
Herman, in the lawsuit, accuses Woods of orchestrating a scheme to kick her out of their shared home after their breakup. She claims an oral agreement was in place for her to live in the house rent-free for five years after they separated, whereas Woods’ team denies the existence of any such agreement. Rather, his team argues that Herman had no right to live in the once-shared home once the relationship ended.
Herman also wants the NDA she signed during their relationship declared unenforceable.
Bleacher reporting on the matter and describing some of the details of the alleged scheme that kicked her out of the Florida house, noted that:
Erica Herman, who is Tiger Woods’ ex-girlfriend, is reportedly suing the golfer for $30 million for allegedly violating a verbal agreement she said was in place by preventing her from accessing the Florida home where they once lived together.
Herman said Woods’ representatives told her they were taking her to the airport for a “short vacation” and then informed her she was “locked out” of the house and could not return once they arrived at the airport.
The basis of the lawsuit is the “oral tenancy agreement” she said the couple had that would have allowed her to live in the house for five more years with a “reasonable rental value” of $30 million total.
Bleacher Report also added a few details on why Herman thinks the NDA should be made unenforceable. Reporting on that, it continued:
Herman said the federal Speak Out Act, which prevents a previous NDA from being enforced in a situation involving sexual assault or sexual harassment, applies in this case. She also said Woods’ private trust is enforcing the NDA to prevent her from discussing her experiences with him.
Herman is also alleging sexual abuse in the lawsuit, as USA Today reported, saying:
The ex-girlfriend of Tiger Woods filed a lawsuit against him this week that includes a four-page form with questions to be answered by her attorney. One of them gets right to the point:
“Does this case involve allegations of sexual abuse?”
“Yes,” responded the attorney for Erica Herman, the ex-girlfriend who filed the lawsuit.
Woods’ legal team didn’t return a message seeking comment, possibly because Woods is forbidden from discussing his private disputes with Herman in public. According to court records, the famed golfer entered into a nondisclosure agreement (NDA) with her in August 2017 – a document that was intended to ensure such privacy.
Whether any of her allegations, from the alleged home lockout scheme to the sexual abuse, are unclear. It’s possible, of course, that she’s just trying to squeeze money out of Woods. What does seem likely, however, is that this will turn into an ugly lawsuit that distracts Woods from his golf game.
