The website for the tournament notes that “The Adidas Nationals is an event where Kindergarten through 12th graders can compete against their own grade level, in their weight class, to stake their claim as the best in the country in folkstyle wrestling. Kindergarten-age wrestlers can wrestle in the 1st-grade division.”
The tournament eventually narrows down where “One Wrestler from each Division in each weight class in each grade will be crowned National Champion” and “The top 8 place finishers from each division in each weight class will receive awards and Adidas All-American Certificates.”
This year’s tournament was the 20th annual tournament, as the tournament’s website also stated, saying, “The 20th Anniversary of the adidas Wrestling Nationals is April 6-8, 2023 in Independence, MO! Profits from this event are donated back to wrestling and have provided over $600,000 in assistance to wrestling programs through the REACHES Fund.”
It also provides that “R.E.A.C.H.E.S. (Rewarding Educational Athletic Choices Helping Each Sport) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2007 in an effort to promote, protect, and preserve amateur athletics in its truest form.? R.E.A.C.H.E.S. provides athletic opportunities to athletes of all ages and abilities in a unique environment with the profits of each event earmarked for a specific needs in that sport.?”
The “Let’s Go Brandon” chant is the chant heard round the world since the fall of 2021, when the defeat in Afghanistan and rising inflation led to large public gatherings, particularly college football games, turning into either “let’s go Brandon” or “f*** Joe Biden” chants. The chant began when a reporter at a NASCAR race said that the crowd, which was clearly chanting “f*** Joe Biden,” was chanting “let’s go Brandon.” “Let’s go Brandon” then became a popular way of mocking both the mainstream media and President Joe Biden.
The phrase quickly became a lighting rod, with colleges and event venues attempting to ban it while liberals went berserk whenever it was chanted. For example, some random leftist tried to cancel an American Airlines pilot for daring to put a “Let’s Go Brandon” sticker on his luggage. Yes, really. Tweeting images of the pilot and the sticker, she said:
“hey @American Air – y’all cool with your pilots displaying this kind of cowardly rhetoric on their crew luggage when they’re in uniform, about to fly a plane? we are not the only passengers who noticed and were disgusted. today in UVF about to board to Miami.”
Similarly, NASCAR attempted to ban the chant when it went woke after the Bubba Wallace make believe scandal, though that wasn’t overly successful. Rather, the chant mostly died out on its own as people moved on to the next thing, though it occasionally pops up from time to time, as seen here.
