A black bear decided to mosey on into a bakery in a small town in Connecticut, Avon, in search of a tasty treat. It found it. 60 tasty treats and a number of coconut cakes, in fact, which it ate when it claimed the food in a delivery van as its own.

The black bear encounter at the Taste by Spellbound Bakery in Avon, Connecticut, occurred as a worker at the shop was loading up trays of the tasty treats onto a delivery van. Announcing what happened on Instagram, the saying, the bakery’s account kicked things off by saying, “Okay. Here’s the real story.”

Then, getting into just what happened, the bakery set the scene, describing what was going on when the bear poked its furry head into the restaurant and decided to steal a few snacks. In it words: “We have a loading garage in the back of our Avon shop for our Transit. Maureen was loading it with the last items before I was to leave. She was on the West Hartford side of the van, looked up and saw a bear staring at her from the South Windsor side.

So what happened? Maureen, the employee involved, was not a happy camper and started screaming, as the bakery said, saying, “All the sudden we hear her screaming bloody murder and then yelling ‘there’s a bear in garage!‘”

Continuing, Maureen did her best to get away from the bear as fast as is humanly possible, as the post put it, saying, “She ran into the kitchen as fast as she could and slammed the door that goes into the loading area and held it tight.

But the bear wasn’t done after it had some fun eating all the cupcakes on the loading trays. It then started trying to make it into the rest of the bakery, moving things away from the door to push its way through, as the post went on to say: “The bear then MOVED one of our fridges in front of the door. We all were stunned for a second trying to figure out what to do while she held the door shut.

And after that? It was time for those in the bakery to start finding solutions, which they did, coming up with a creative solution to draw the bear elsewhere, ending its reign of terror in the bakery: “I immediately called 911. Lisa then had a brilliant idea to go out the front and get in her car to drive around back and she started beeping her horn like a crazy person. She finally got him out and Maureen ran to the garage to close it as fast as she could.

A police officer eventually showed up to deal with the situation, but not before the bear, according to the post, managed to have its way with 60 cupcakes, “a bunch of coconut cake,” and get off scot-free with the crime.

Ending the post, the bakery said, “And that folks, is the bear story. I’m so thankful Maureen was safe wasn’t hurt, as well as the rest of the team.

Describing the incident, Maureen Williams, an employee at the Avon bakery, told WTNH, “It was a little shocking. The adrenaline was pumping after that one, for sure.
