Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, standing firm against her detractors, asserted she is “paying no mind” to criticism. This comes even after she expressed growing exasperation with mockery of her first name in a speech delivered at a suburban Atlanta church.
Speaking to a gathering of supporters, the Democratic prosecutor highlighted how she has been scorned for her legal actions against former President Donald Trump. She detailed the jabs thrown her way, with critics stooping to mock her name by likening it to “a woman’s rear.” The personal attack comes as her capacity to handle the high-profile case hangs in the balance, pending an appellate court’s review of her prosecutorial authority.
Despite not explicitly naming him, Willis has openly critiqued Trump, who previously derided her in a March rally, crudely twisting her name to “fanny, like your *ss,” as reported by Politico.
Willis voiced her frustration with the insults during her speech, saying, “While they over there running their mouth, I’m over here paying them no mind. I’m so tired of hearing these idiots call my name as ‘Fanny’ in a way to attempt to humiliate me. Because like silly school boys, the name reminds them of a woman’s rear,” according to the clip.
WATCH:
Trump’s legal team has seized upon Willis’s frequent public remarks to argue that her prosecution is driven more by political ambitions than justice, especially in light of her recent victory in the Democratic primary and her upcoming contest against a strong Republican opponent this November.
During her 25-minute address at a Georgia AME church, Willis urged the congregation not to dwell on the disparagement. “What I’m here to tell you is to not concern yourself with insults of me. I promise you, I don’t concern myself with them,” she affirmed. She emphasized her dedication to justice, stating she spends “15-hour days trying to use every talent God gave me to fulfill my God-given purpose” and strives to hold all lawbreakers accountable without exception.
Complicating matters, Willis faces accusations of misusing federal funds. An August indictment alleges that she and 18 co-defendants conspired to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results, a claim bolstered by Republican investigations into whether she improperly allocated federal anti-gang funds for her case against Trump. Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH) has been particularly vocal, citing whistleblower testimony against Willis’s funding decisions.
Moreover, a Georgia Senate probe and a newly convened panel by Governor Brian Kemp are examining grounds for potentially removing Willis from her office, accusing her of violating her oath.
