Newly declassified FBI records have implicated Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) as a potential source of significant leaks intended to damage President Donald Trump. This revelation comes from interview summaries known as 302s, released by FBI Director Kash Patel. A whistleblower, whose identity remains undisclosed, indicated that Swalwell “has been the source of a lot of leaked information and had to be counseled to be more careful.”
Prominent investigative journalist Catherine Herridge noted the seriousness of these leaks, pointing out that the 2017 interview summary from the FBI suggests links between Swalwell and intelligence information with the intention of political attacks. In her report, she stated, “It appears to be a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence,” indicating the gravity of the situation.
Instead of addressing the accusations, Swalwell reacted vehemently on social media. He accused Patel and those publicizing the findings of attempting to silence him. In an outraged post, he claimed, “More bullshit in service to Trump to try and keep me quiet. Come get me, Kash.” His words reflect a frantic effort to deflect attention from the serious implications of the FBI’s findings.
Swalwell further dismissed the whistleblower’s claims, saying, “This ‘whistleblower’ made this bullshit up when Trump was President. If they had anything, they would have indicted me.” His insistence that the lack of indictment proves his innocence has raised eyebrows, with critics noting his previous scandals that involved questionable judgment and a reported affair with a Chinese intelligence operative.
In yet another post, Swalwell criticized reporters for allegedly failing to provide complete context, which he claimed led to an increase in threats against him. He stated, “When reporters fall for this, and don’t give full context… the death threats roll in.” Despite his protestations, Swalwell’s history of controversial decisions, including his involvement with a foreign spy, has made this latest chapter in his political career contentious.
These developments underscore the ongoing scrutiny faced by Swalwell. As the details surrounding the declassified FBI records continue to unfold, they could pose further challenges for him in the public eye.
