Harjinder Singh, a Punjabi driver, lacked the ability to read road signs and had failed to demonstrate proficiency in English. Singh, whose Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) was issued in California, now faces three counts of vehicular homicide. Duffy stated that at the conclusion of Singh’s state charges, he will be deported. “The failures here are despicable,” Duffy emphasized, criticizing the non-enforcement of immigration laws that have allowed unqualified drivers into the trucking industry. He added, “Radical immigration policies have turned the trucking industry into a lawless frontier.”

Duffy pointed out significant lapses in the system that enabled Singh to acquire his license, detailing failures in both Washington and New Mexico. “Asylum seekers or illegal aliens are NOT allowed to receive this!” he asserted about the issuance of Singh’s CDL.
In a swift response to a shocking revelation, it was reported that Singh had received a work permit under the current administration after an earlier request was denied. This raises serious concerns over the regulation of foreign drivers in the U.S. trucking industry.
