Reports have surfaced revealing that Ghislaine Maxwell, a convicted sex trafficker and former associate of Jeffrey Epstein, was recognized at the 2013 Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) conference dedicated to ocean conservation. This came despite longstanding allegations of her involvement in Epstein’s crimes since at least 2009. Doug Band, a former aide to Bill Clinton, claimed he told staff to exclude Maxwell from Clinton events. Yet, she attended nonetheless, raising questions about the Clintons’ involvement in her presence.
Maxwell was also at Chelsea Clinton’s wedding in 2010. Clinton’s aides maintain that they had no knowledge of Epstein’s wrongdoing despite the evidence. Band asserts he directed his team to remove Maxwell’s name from all event lists when serious allegations against her became public. A spokesperson for Bill Clinton deflected responsibility, stating, “The decisions on those comps were made, as they have been historically, at the staff level, which included the office of President Clinton.”
Further distancing themselves, the spokesperson insisted, “The appearance is about someone working on ocean conservation attending a charitable conference 12 years ago, along with thousands of other people, and nothing more.” They reiterated that the Clintons knew nothing of Epstein’s crimes, claiming, “As we have consistently said, the Clintons know nothing about Jeffrey Epstein’s terrible crimes.”
However, Maxwell offered a contrasting narrative in an interview with the Deputy Attorney General. She detailed her time with Bill Clinton and Epstein, asserting, “So they spent time on the plane together, and I don’t believe there was ever a massage on the plane. So that would’ve been the only time that I think that President Clinton could have even received a massage. And he didn’t, because I was there.” This statement adds another layer to the already complicated relationship between these figures.
For years, speculation has surrounded the connections between the Clinton family and Epstein. A recent report from the House Oversight Committee pointed to Maxwell’s extensive “birthday book,” created for Jeffrey Epstein’s 50th birthday in 2003, which included notes from prominent individuals, including Bill Clinton. One of Maxwell’s letters indicated that the book was meant to “gather stories and old photographs to jog your memory about places, people, and different events.” She expressed hope that Epstein would “derive as much pleasure from looking through it as I did from making it for him.”
In a particularly curious entry, Clinton hailed Epstein’s “childlike curiosity” and his “drive to make a difference.” Alan Dershowitz, who represented Epstein legally, claimed he gifted an early version of a Vanity Fair article to Epstein, stating, “I talked them into changing the focus from you to Bill Clinton.” These notes and letters only deepen the intrigue.
In the wake of these revelations, Rep. James Comer, a member of the House Oversight Committee, reacted strongly, emphasizing the committee’s commitment to investigating Epstein’s crimes. He stated, “Oversight Committee Republicans are focused on running a thorough investigation to bring transparency and accountability for survivors of Epstein’s heinous crimes and the American people.” With increasing scrutiny on the connections and conversations surrounding Epstein’s dark dealings, pressure mounts on those linked to him.
