Police in Thousand Oaks, California, arrested a man suspected of recording women in a Target dressing room. Jack Crawford, 25, faces eight misdemeanor charges related to invasion of privacy. According to a release from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office dated September 19, these incidents occurred on June 5, when a victim noticed a cell phone camera positioned over the wall of the fitting room.
“The victim yelled out,” the report states, “and the cell phone was suddenly pulled back over the wall.” This incident prompted an investigation. After reviewing surveillance footage, detectives tracked Crawford and executed a search warrant on his cellphone, where they uncovered videos of several other women taken during previous visits to the store on May 12 and June 2.
Crawford was taken into custody on September 17 and booked at East County Jail. In California, each count of invasion of privacy can lead to penalties that include six months in jail and fines up to $1,000.
Due to the nature of these charges, police believe additional victims may exist. Detectives encourage anyone with more information to reach out to Detective Nicole Adrianzen.
In a separate but similar case, a resident of Belton, Texas, has caused alarm among locals with his repeated criminal behavior. James Austin Grisham, 45, has been arrested nearly 30 times since 2005 for offenses like peeping into homes at night and following residents during the day. A neighbor noted the community’s heightened awareness, saying, “I’m always seeing stuff about him. People even have alerts that let them know when he has been arrested or released.” Grisham’s recent arrest occurred on August 26 for criminal trespassing, and his bond was set at $15,000.
One resident expressed concern over his family’s safety, saying, “My wife and my girl are always on my mind. And I’m on edge most all day knowing they are here alone.”
These incidents in Thousand Oaks and Belton highlight ongoing issues related to privacy and safety in public spaces. The arrests reflect law enforcement’s commitment to addressing these serious breaches of trust and safety in communities.
