The organizers outlined their strategy, which includes using local libraries as hubs for protests and a planned gathering at San Francisco’s Embarcadero Plaza. Discussions during the session encompassed broader themes of authoritarianism and strategies for defending illegal immigrants through economic boycotts and strikes. They even claimed success in halting the construction of a facility intended for detaining illegal immigrants.
Critics have responded to the actions planned by these protesters with increasing alarm. Writer Mike Miller from Red State remarked on the potential for violence, asserting, “The violent actions of anti-ICE, pro-illegal alien zealots… are clearly… demonstrable acts of insurrection.” He expressed skepticism about the protesters’ claims of peacefulness, suggesting that many prior protests have escalated into unrest. As tensions rise, communities impacted by crime involving illegal immigrants often feel overlooked by their local governments.
Meanwhile, the ongoing actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) continue unimpeded. Just as the protesters were rallying, ICE was active on the ground. According to a recent Department of Homeland Security (DHS) news release, Luis Robles-Minjares, a Mexican national, was apprehended due to his criminal record, which includes a conviction for sexually assaulting a child under ten. DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin emphasized the commitment of ICE officers, stating, “Every day… our brave ICE law enforcement officers are risking their lives to arrest the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens including pedophiles, rapists, and domestic abusers.”
