Patel stated, “The Chinese government agreed on a plan to stop fentanyl precursors.” These precursors are chemical compounds essential for the production of fentanyl, which has contributed to tens of thousands of deaths in America. He reported that China has now designated and listed 13 precursors used in fentanyl production and has committed to regulating seven related chemical subsidiaries.
Patel labeled this agreement a “historic, first-in-its-kind” achievement in the fight against fentanyl. “Essentially, President Trump has shut off the pipeline that creates fentanyl that kills tens of thousands of Americans,” he emphasized. This breakthrough aims to significantly impact the operations of drug trafficking organizations that rely on these chemicals.
Patel also highlighted the achievements of the Trump Administration in combating this epidemic. The FBI has seized roughly 1,900 kilograms of fentanyl in the year to date—a 31% increase from the previous year. This amount is staggering; Patel noted it could potentially kill over 127 million Americans. These figures underscore the severity of the fentanyl crisis, which claimed approximately 100,000 lives from overdoses last year alone.
In his remarks, Patel stressed the importance of targeting fentanyl precursors to dismantle the drug supply chain.
