Given that the Pantsuit Empire loves to involve itself in the internal affairs of other nations on the basis of “genocide” claims (just look at the “Responsibility to Protect” doctrine from the post-Cold War period), you’d think it’d actually call out genocides.
Well, you’d be wrong. The US Department of State, in a document entitled “A Call to Prevent Genocide,” had this to say:
December 9 marks the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of Victims of the Crime of Genocide and the Prevention of this Crime, offering a moment to reflect upon the great evil that exists in our world and to recommit ourselves to do everything in our power to stop it. People of goodwill everywhere have a duty to remember, to grieve, to speak out, to reaffirm the dignity of victims of genocide and other atrocity crimes, and to pursue justice for these acts. Victims of these crimes are not merely numbers. They are mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, family and community members, friends, neighbors, human beings. Our hearts break for all victims, survivors, and families and loved ones affected by this brutal and heinous crime.
On this day of remembrance, let us recommit to use all the tools at our disposal in a collective effort to prevent and respond to genocide and other atrocities. Let us speak out against Holocaust denial and distortion and the denial of genocide in all its forms. Let us oppose those who would manufacture distrust in the institutions of justice, deny the common humanity of their neighbors, and exploit the pain of victims. Let us seek justice.
There are no more important tasks.
Did you notice what was left out? Once you’re looking for it, it’s noticeably absent.
What’s missing is any reference to the actual campaign of genocide being carried out in the world right now: Red China’s genocide of the Uighurs in Xinjiang.
That’s right. Despite saying “there are no more important tasks” than preventing and responding to genocides, the State Department wasn’t even willing to call out the Red Chinese for their horrific, genocidal treatment of the Uighurs.
Apparently, “Holocaust denial and distortion” is a more important issue to deal with than China’s murder, torture, and mass sterilization of the Uighur population.
Apparently, it’s a great threat for common people to deny genocide, but the State Department, which is the organization pushing this line of thought, has no responsibility to itself call out the genocide that’s actually occurring.
There are, of course, arguments to be made that the US has no responsibility or reason to interfere in China’s affairs and deal with its treatment of the Uighurs. But, if the State Department is going to push a message about fighting genocide in all its forms, it needs to actually call out genocide.
