Apparently, schools in Michigan have decided they don’t need better math programs, English programs that actually teach students to read and write, or any of the other basic aspects of education that America’s schools are sorely lacking in, as shown by our continual decline in world education rankings.
Instead, teachers and administrators there think students need…wait for it…more BLM and “equity” based programming! Because the most important thing you can teach a young pupil, apparently, is to hate his or her country.
The most egregious example of that trend is from Farmington Public Schools, a school district near Detroit, which just published its 21-day “equity challenge.” That “equity challenge” is full of reprehensibly un-American ideas.
Among them are:
- A praise of equity (day three), which explains that “Equality is giving everyone a shoe. Equity is giving everyone a shoe that fits.”
- A “land acknowledgment” to respect “indigenous people” (day two), which demands students recite this mantra: “I would like to acknowledge that this meeting is being held on the traditional lands of the Potawatomi People – People of the Place of the Fire, and pay my respect to elders both past and present.”
- A video that excoriates “whiteness” (day 7), saying “Whiteness is the preferred norm in America,” while showing a drawing of angry minorities glaring at a white woman holding a trophy. According to Just the News, that same video “depicted those who oppose transgender people going into the opposite bathroom of their biological sex as what appears to be a blob of ghosts pointing threateningly at a child who’s holding a football but thinking of being a ballerina.“
And that’s just in the first week. The program also claims that it’s a “microaggression” to call America a melting pot or the land of opportunity, and calls on students to join BLM and help bail out rioters. Because what every 10 year old needs to be doing is throwing Molotov cocktails at cop cars.
But still it goes on. Day 13, focused on gender and sexuality, says “Sexuality is who you want to be with. Gender identity is who you want to be in the world.” It also praises transgenderism and teaches students to use wacky pronouns. An assigned reading says gender “is the complex interrelationship between three dimensions: body, identity, and social gender.”
As another example of the program’s horrible nature, it even attacks meritocracy, at one point attacking statements such as “I believe the most qualified person should get the job,” “Everyone can succeed in this society if they work hard enough,” and “America is the land of opportunity.”
But, by far worst of all was the final day’s lesson, titled “Time for Some Action,” which asked students to create a “personal action plan” to advance equity. Ideas for that action plan included attending BLM rallies, donating to the bail funds of arrested rioters, posting daily social media posts about social justice topics, and for their parents to bring up race in the workplace.
Apparently, Farmington Public Schools doesn’t want to raise a generation of normal kids that can think for themselves and see hope in their future so long as they work hard. It’d rather fill their heads with woke nonsense and demand they bend the knee to the demented demands of their Social Justice Warrior teachers.
