Democrats are dropping out of their 2022 races before those races even begin, claiming this or that as their noble reason why.
However, we all know the real reason isn’t “family” or “health” or whatever else they might claim, at least in many of the cases. No, it’s disgust with how poorly the year has gone under Brandon and, in many cases, a complete unwillingness to try to face what’s sure to be a Red Tsunami that washes over the Swamp in 2022.
While the total as of yesterday was 27, along with the widely rumored but not yet announced retirement of Nancy Pelosi, now there is another Democrat quitter to add to the list: California Rep. Jerry McNerney. No, not Jerry Nadler, unfortunately. He’s from the other super woke state, New York.
He’s a long-term Democrat too, not a recent addition that threw up his hands like a less noble Mr. Smith. First elected in 2007 to represent California’s 11th congressional district, he did so until 2013. Afterward, he remained in Congress but switched districts, representing the 9th district of California since then.
However, he’s finally had enough and won’t be running again. Announcing his retirement in a Twitter thread, McNerney said:
“Today I am announcing that I will not seek reelection in California’s newly created 9th Congressional District.
I am honored that the citizens of California’s 9th Congressional District chose me as their representative in the past five elections, and that those in California’s previous 11th Congressional District gave me the privilege of representing them for three terms.
I am very proud of the many accomplishments that my staff and I have achieved in Congress, including the creation of a major veteran’s health center facility in San Joaquin County, providing outstanding help for constituents with federal agencies…
…and securing major investments in infrastructure and public safety, broadband, education, childcare, and health care access. I have always fought tirelessly for those in need, and I will continue to do so.
I am grateful for the love and support of my family, who have been by my side throughout this journey. I could not have done this without them.
I will keep working for the people of my district throughout the remainder of my term and look forward to new opportunities to continue to serve.”
While he says he has “fought tirelessly,” he’s apparently decided not to do so now that the going is getting tough. The red wave is coming so that “tireless fighter” is on his way out.
Although, to be fair, when even Stacey Abrams won’t show up for a voting rights speech because Brandon is giving it, the party has larger issues than one Democrat from California deciding not to run again.
Still, if McNerney’s retreat is viewed as a symptom of whatever is afflicting the Democrat Party rather than the problem itself, it helps shed light on what the problem is right now: a complete lack of enthusiasm for Brandon’s senile take on far-left policies is pushing voters into the arms of the GOP and Democrats not possessed by ideology out of the party.
Unwilling to deal with the headache of a strong opposition during midterms, those Democrats that aren’t “all in” on what Brandon is up to are fleeing the party, “tireless fighters” or not. Now the GOP just needs to capitalize on that.
