I, like most critical thinking conservatives, weary of hearing the daily breakdown of law and order within our society, usually brought about by progressive policies. However, I couldn’t help but smirk when I heard the news that a former progressive Senator was robbed and assaulted in Oakland, California.
My knee-jerk reaction to the news was an unfortunate primal response, similar to what we witness at times in a courtroom when a grieving victim suddenly goes haywire and attempts to attack the perpetrator.
In this particular instance, former Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) who was assaulted and robbed in Oakland, California Monday afternoon is by all rational accounts “the victim”. Yet it’s because of progressive policies that Boxer and her peers have promoted for decades that thugs like this can brazenly attack an 80-year old woman in broad daylight. In most cases they walk out of jail within a matter of hours without posting bail.

The Oakland Police Department confirmed the attack took place in the vicinity of Jack London Square around 1:15 p.m. while Boxer was walking and talking on her cell phone near Third Street. The suspect, a young man in his 30’s approached the former Senator, aggressively pushed her while simultaneously grabbing her phone, and fleeing into a waiting black vehicle. Although physically shaken Boxer was not hurt in the daylight attack.
Ironically, the attack took place just hours after a prearranged news conference by top federal and state law enforcement bureaucrats vowing to take a stronger approach to the skyrocketing crime-wave that has gripped California (along with several other mostly blue-states).
Justin Berton, a spokesperson for Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, said the mayor was “deeply troubled to learn of the assault and robbery of Sen. Boxer today.”
“She spoke with the Senator’s family to extend her well wishes for a speedy recovery and was relieved to learn she was not seriously injured.” Berton added that police are looking for any surveillance video from the area, which is a popular public area.
Thus far Oakland has seen a 30% rise in homicides within the first 6-months of 2021, with roughly another 6-months to go.
Oakland Police Department Chief LeRonne Armstrong angrily confronted the City Council recently, after Council members voted to “redirect” $18 million dollars from the police budget to other social pet-projects in the midst of a growing crime-wave.
During the heated meeting Police Chief Armstrong took to the microphone to publicly slam the Council, decrying the budget cuts that would mean fewer police officers on the streets, delayed responses to 911 calls, all at a time when Oakland has seen a spike in violent crime.

“We find ourselves in a crisis. We see clearly that crime is out of control in the city of Oakland and our response was for less police resources.” Armstrong concluded.
While Boxer is no longer a senator, she did raise a few eyebrows recently when she registered as a foreign agent for a Chinese firm blacklisted by the State Department. The firm “Hikcvision USA, is a subsidiary of a Chinese surveillance company run in part by the Communist Party.
Back in October of 2019, the Trump Administration’s Commerce Department added Hikvision to its trade embargo list for “repression, mass arbitrary detention and high-technology surveillance” of Muslim Uyghurs in China’s Xinjiang Province.
