A woman who was charged with hitting a George Floyd protester with her SUV finally received the verdict from a Denver jury.
The woman was found guilty of a reckless driving charge, a misdemeanor. HOWEVER, the jury also found her not guilty of assault in the charge of hitting the protester with her SUV.
Attorneys who represented the defendant, a Jennifer Watson, made a statement on social media saying she should not have been charged in the first place, according to Fox News.
“Ms. Watson should not have been charged. We appreciate the jury’s verdict of not guilty to the assault charge,” driver Jennifer Watson’s attorneys at Brackley Law Office PLLC said in a statement on Facebook after the verdict Friday.
Darn right she should have been charged! Those folks were surrounding her car and anytime someone runs in the road to surround a car, you have a right to be scared. And if you’re scared, then what are you going to do: stay there and risk having your car destroyed and possibly pulled out of the car and beaten? Or drive away and try to get to safety? Anyone with common sense would drive away and get away from that scenario as fast as possible.
It’s time for the law to stop allowing protesters to run the streets and block traffic. No one is listening to their protest when they’re blocking traffic anyway. Get a job, folks!
Fox News continued the report:
“On the evening of May 28, 2020, my client was just trying to get home, driving a route she took regularly, when she was diverted by protesters at the intersection of East Colfax and Broadway. She was alone in her car with her dog when she was surrounded by people who began kicking and hitting her car and taunting and yelling at her. While stopped, Mr. Max Bailey jumped up onto the hood of her car and her windshield was smashed in two places. She was terrified and fearful for her safety,” Watson’s lawyers said last year in a statement.
Well, there you go. She should never have been charged. This is 100% on the protesters. How dare someone jump on your car and smash your windshield! Oh wait, in a Democrat’s mind, it would be more like “how dare you only let one person smash your windshield. How dare you drive away and not let them destroy your entire car. The nerve!”
Joshua Jered posted the video of protester being run over with caption: “Running over a nonviolent protester should be illegal. Law statement: ”the driver must be ’exercising due care,’ and the person in the roadway must be there to protest and be purposefully blocking the vehicles.”
