Speaker Nancy Pelosi continued to push her debunked narrative that January 6 was a Trump-led “insurrection,” rather than a riot fueled by extremist groups. Pelosi appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” with Jake Tapper, who uncritically allowed Pelosi to spin a yarn about the riot.
Tapper’s framing was that maybe Steve Bannon and other Trump allies should go to jail for defying the partisan committee’s subpoenas. Watch:
“The House voted to hold Steve Bannon in contempt of Congress for ignoring a subpoena. Do you think people who refuse to comply with Congressional subpoenas should be prosecuted by the Justice department and at the end of the day go to jail?” Jake Tapper asked.
“Yes. I do,” Pelosi responded without missing a beat. “I do. First of all, people say this hasn’t happened before. We haven’t had an insurrection incited by the President of the United States and one of the his toadies having advanced knowledge of that happening. So, in fact, it’s important for a number of reasons, it’s important for us to find the truth about what happened on January 6th in the assault on our Constitution, our Congress and our Capitol.”
“But it’s also important to, in terms of the separation of power and checks and balances of the Constitution, which is the genius of the Constitution, for this to happen in this way.”
“Absolutely,” replied. “So, you’re willing, if the committee decides to subpoena Trump, you’re willing to have that happen, too?” Tapper asked.
“I’m not – they have everything on the table,” she replied. “I don’t get involved in the decisions of the committee. But when you say if he should do this and go to jail, well, he will be tried and see… what in court is.”
In August, a Reuters report obliterated the essential claim that Donald Trump directed extremists to attack the Capitol building and urged protesters to thwart a peaceful transfer of power.
“The FBI has found scant evidence that the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol was the result of an organized plot to overturn the presidential election result, according to four current and former law enforcement officials,” Reuters reported.
“Though federal officials have arrested more than 570 alleged participants, the FBI at this point believes the violence was not centrally coordinated by far-right groups or prominent supporters of then-President Donald Trump, according to the sources, who have been either directly involved in or briefed regularly on the wide-ranging investigations,” the report continued.
“Ninety to ninety-five percent of these are one-off cases,” said a former senior law enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation. “Then you have five percent, maybe, of these militia groups that were more closely organized. But there was no grand scheme with Roger Stone and Alex Jones and all of these people to storm the Capitol and take hostages.”
House impeachment managers, nine radicals hand-picked by Speaker Pelosi to bring a partisan case to the Senate, made the case that former President Donald Trump was “singularly responsible” for the Capitol siege. The impeachment managers made the argument in an 80-page document.
However, President Trump could not have “incited” the Capitol attack that was planned before his speech was given. The New York Times reports that the “first barriers were breached” at 12:53 p.m. at the Northwest side of the Capitol. The NY Times then claims that Trump’s “call to action” was at 1:12 p.m. Of course, this is nearly twenty minutes after the purported first “breach” of the barricades. The speech was given a mile and a half away.
Trump’s speech was standard political fare, and he even told the audience at his speech to “peacefully and patriotically make their voices heard.” He also deliberately said “fight” in the commonplace political context.
The Commander-in-Chief and head of powerful intelligence and law enforcement agencies did not select a motley rabble of disparate extremist elements to carry out a “coup” to disrupt the objections of the Electoral College. The extremists in the Capitol building were not even found to be armed with firearms. This was a ludicrous argument from the very beginning, but that did not stop major news outlets from promoting it.
None of the January 6 defendants have been charged with “insurrection.” None of them have been charged with “treason” for attempting to overturn an election. In fact, many of those who were charged with even violent crimes are getting plea deals, apparently to prevent the release of exculpatory evidence in discovery, such as nearly 14,000 hours of video footage of the event.
Yet the media refuse to push back against the Democrats’ bogus claims about January 6 and even further the party’s deceptive narratives. This is not journalism. This is the worst kind of propaganda and CNN is nothing more than an arm of the Democratic Party.
