Heroic Efforts of Taxi Driver Saves Hospital From Terrorist Explosion

Every year in the United Kingdom, Remembrance Sunday is a holiday held to remember, honor, and commemorate soldiers who died during any war or military operation “since the onset of World War I.” This year, and every year prior, it is held on the second Sunday of November. At 11:00 am, most will be holding a two minute moment of silence in churches, over broadcasts on radio or television all over the UK, but this past Remembrance Sunday silence wasn’t observed in one Taxi Cab.

Emad Al Swealmeen, a 32 year old rejected asylum seeker, got into a cab with driver David Perry. According to friends of David Perry and a report by The Sun, Emad Al Swealmeen asked first to go to a cathedral and when roads were blocked, things got a little strange and may have alerted David Perry to something being off with the man when he told the “cabbie” to go to the city center instead. It was while passing by a women’s hospital in Liverpool that Swealmeen told David to pull in.

“A source”told The Sun that; “The man changed his mind and asked to go to the city centre instead. But when they were going past the Women’s Hospital he said to pull in there. It was just before 11am. David noticed the man had some kind of light attached to his clothing and was messing around with it, it didn’t look right at all.”

According to reports the bomb went off at 10:59 am, just before the two minutes of silence was meant to be observed. Thanks to some quick thinking and a tremendous amount of courage, Perry locked the doors to the vehicle just before the bomb went off, preventing Swealmeen from making it into the hospital’s reception area.

Remarkably, David Perry survived the bombing, though he was seriously injured and burned. The Sun continued to report that “cops were previously exploring a ­theory the detonator in a device exploded while the main charge did not” to explain how the driver managed to survive the terrorist attack.

There is an ongoing investigation though, where three men have been arrested according to The New York Post in relation to the bombing and/or the failed terrorist bomber.

As for David Perry, he has a massive following of men and women all over the UK calling him a hero. Several have stated they believe wholeheartedly that because of his actions he should never have to buy a pint again.

While David Perry has been getting some much deserved praise, one Twitter user pointed out another person who seemed just as heroic as the individual seemed to be pulling Perry away from the danger and then just hanging on to him in a supportive appearance.

While one might believe that such an act of bravery and the prevention of dozens to hundreds of injuries or death should be something to unite the opposing political sides of the United Kingdom, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Not only has there been a tweet or two implying that David Perry did nothing heroic at all, but now several of the media in the UK have been doing all they can to paint the refused asylum seeker as a Christian!

Here we see a tweet that’s nearly 24 hours old as of time of publication making the first claim that Perry didn’t have a choice because of the vehicle he was driving. Do note that this individual in the comments on his thread immediately took to calling one of the people who disagreed with him an “Islamophobe”.

Below are a few responses to headlines or news coverage that was designed to make the bomber appear as if they are not Muslim, but in fact Christian. However, as is pointed out in the second tweet below, the man had changed his name to sound more Western and may have converted to Christianity to try to get his application for asylum accepted. It was ultimately denied.

There was even some anger when a politician expressed their condolences to the family of the bomber.

The politician in question, Labour party member Jonathan Ashworth has since apologized, claiming that he had made a mistake and was under the impression that a citizen and not the terrorist had died.
