Regardless of what Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the U.S. representative for New York’s 14th congressional district, “AOC”, ignorantly said in an interview with The Washington Times, Los Angels IS in the midst of growing lawlessness.
[Ocasio-Cortez] “a lot of these allegations of organized retail theft are not actually panning out.”
“I believe it’s a Walgreens in California cited it, but the data didn’t back it up,”
Crime has gotten so bad in Los Angeles the head of a police union in the city is warning tourists to stay away. “We can’t guarantee your safety. It is really, really out of control,” Jamie McBride, head of the L.A. Police Protective League, told CBS Los Angeles.
His comments come during a discussion on Fox News as Proposition 47 is being debated again after 20 looters struck an L.A. Nordstrom in a smash-and-grab attack.
“My message to anyone thinking about coming to Los Angeles, especially during the holiday season, is don’t”
The message from McBride comes as what many residents and business owners view as a wave of crime slamming the city and surrounding areas.
“I said it to people before, it’s like that movie ‘Purge,’ you know, instead of 24 hours to commit your crime, these people have 365 days to commit whatever they want.” added McBride
In the 2013 horror film, there is a 12-hour period where all crime is legal, according to Imdb.com.
His warning seems to resonate with some residents.
“It’s pretty scary walking at night,” said Sarah Veenstra, who moved to LA from Wisconsin about six months ago. She said she didn’t realize crime and safety would be such an issue.
“I genuinely thought it would be a safe area. It turned out not be as safe as I thought. I’m definitely, like, carrying something on me every time I leave the house when it’s dark out,” she said.
“Criminals have been laughing at us,” Sacramento County District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert said, reports the Los Angeles Times. “There’s a clear belief — and very large reality — that there’s no consequences anymore to theft. … You tell everybody we’re not going to hold anybody accountable and guess what’s going to happen?”
I have never been a fan of Los Angeles and have joked for years that the only time I go to LA is when I get lost in Southern California.
As with all progressive-run cities, I recommend staying out, for your own safety.
As Biden’s policies take the economy down the tubes, lawlessness is sure to increase even more.
