NYC’s Dem mayor, Eric Adams, is reportedly seriously considering running for president as a supposedly “anti-woke” alternative if Joe Biden chooses not to try for a second term in office.
According to the New York Post, Adams, 61, who is an African American, “repeatedly” told his staff that he would like to become a presidential candidate and said he could “win” because the party had gone “too far left”.
“Eric has told me repeatedly that he thinks that he has a platform to run for national office, for president in 2024,” said a source to the New York Post.
“He thinks New York is a national platform [and] he thinks the national party has gotten too far to the left and he thinks he has a platform to win.”
The source also told the Post that Adams was only planning to run for the position if Biden chose not to run again and that the mayor’s advisor Ingrid Lewis-Martin was “running point” on that.
Whether Biden will run for a second term as president is unclear yet. Before the 2020 presidential election, which Biden won, he said he would be a single-term president, supposedly to unite a divided America after Donald Trump’s term in office.

But instead of achieving this goal, Biden has even split his party between an ever-increasing radically-left sect and the [slightly] more level-headed central-left original Democrat, which the party is fast moving away from representing.
Many traditionally loyal Dems are opting to swap to the GOP. Under Biden, Dems are losing working-class votes from all demographics. In addition, the party alienates middle America with its theoretical woke nonsense that most people feel has no relevance to their lives.
If Biden chooses not to re-run for the White House, there is no obvious choice to replace him in a party now full of fragile personalities and even weaker political strategists.
Kamala Harris has a meager approval rating, but as a female of color, her identity politics certainly tick the right boxes for the modern Dems.
The news that Adams is considering running for the post has delighted many centrist Democrats who say sensible Adams steers clear of progressive social of economic stances, unlike Biden. Instead, his supporters have praised his focus on NYC’s rising crime levels:
“He is one of the best-known black elected officials in the country. The play works if Adams makes progress on crime and the president decides not to run. I think he would be crazy not to consider it,” Tusk Strategies’ CEO told the New York Post.
Great to have dear friends like @NYCMayor Eric Adams.

An unnamed GOP lawmaker told the Post that Adams could have a shot of success if he could tackle the city’s out-of-control crime:
“I said you really have to consider that you are young enough where you will have a life after the mayoralty and if you solve the crime problem there would be a lot of interest in a big city Democrat, African American with progressive values but who mediated the crime problem in a major city.”
No NYC mayor has ever made it to be president, but with the Dems continuing to suffer in their public approval ratings, an anti-woke candidate like Adams may be their best shot at survival.
