The Peach State’s prospects for a Republican Senator got a little less fuzzy Tuesday evening after former Heisman winner and NFL star Herschel Walker breezed through the state’s GOP Senate primary with relative ease. Walker will now go against the radical Raphael Warnock in November’s general election.
Walker, who former president Donald Trump has enthusiastically endorsed for well over a year, claimed victory just an hour after polls closed in the critical southern swing state. The New York Post noted that Walker’s domination – 70% of votes with just 16% of precincts reporting – was enough to clinch the Republican Senate nomination.
Gathered in a room full of campaign staff and supporters, Trump called to congratulate the standout candidate.

“You were the greatest football player, you’ll be an even greater politician and Senator. I have no doubt, I knew right from the beginning when I first spoke to you, that this man is going to do things that are incredible. So congratulations not only for the night but for the great numbers, and you’re going to go on to a tremendous victory for a long time.”
“What a long distance you’ve come, right? What a long distance. And I’m only going to be more proud of you after November.”
“There’s nobody like this man. He’s a winner and he’s a champion, and we all love him. And congratulations to everybody in that room.”
With the hurdle of the Republican primary cleared, Herschel Walker prepares to square off against the far-left radical Senator currently holding one of Georgia’s two crucial Senate seats. Prior to 2020, both of Georgia’s Senate positions were held by Republicans, David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, but both lost their races against Democrat candidates Warnock and John Ossoff.
The seat being challenged by Walker was appointed to Loeffler in 2019 upon the retirement of then-Senator Johnny Isakson. The six years for Isakson’s initial term are complete in 2022.
In addition to the support of Donald Trump and Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell, Walker also has the advantage of name recognition in the state where he played collegiately over thirty years ago. So despite being new to politics after a career in athletics and commentary, he should have no issue raising funds over the next few months.
Breitbart wrote about funding availability for an intensive campaign push to unseat Warnock and return Republicans to the Senate majority.
“Walker, who will face Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) in November’s general election, has no shortage of funding. As of May 4, Walker has raised roughly $16.3 million with approximately $7.1 million cash on hand.
However, this is compared to Warnock’s war chest of just under $23 million. Democrats from across the county have appeared to pour money into the race to help Warnock, acknowledging that the Senate majority could very well run through the Peach State.”
