Johnny Depp’s ex, supermodel Kate Moss, will take the stand in her former partner’s 6-week defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard.
The fashion model dated Depp in 1994 during the prime of her modelling career. Heard had mentioned Moss earlier in the trial and had made numerous claims before and during the case that Depp had been violent towards her and had pushed Moss down a flight of stairs when the pair were dating in the 90s.
In a dramatic turn of events which didn’t seem to go as Heard had expected, Moss, 48, completely denied the claims that Depp had ever been physically abusive towards her, and will now testify on behalf of team Depp.
Moss and Depp were a Hollywood power-couple in the 90s and endured a rocky relationship for around four years before breaking up in 1997, reports People.
The pair were known to be party-animals and were seen numerous times yelling at each other in public, but the pair remained cordial after their break-up, even attending Cannes Film Festival together in 1998.
Seeing reports that Kate Moss will be called to the stand on Wednesday in #JohnnyDepp‘s rebuttal case. We talked about this on @LawCrimeNetwork about how #AmberHeard opened the door to this by mentioning an incident of Depp alleging pushing Moss down the stairs. pic.twitter.com/gjKaGETZzz

As Heard mentioned Moss’ name as she testified, Depp’s legal team could be seen punching the air in triumph. Heard’s mention of Moss’ name meant that they could then bring her in to testify:
“That’s one mistake that [Heard] made, was bringing up Kate Moss, which potentially opened the door to [Depp’s team] bringing [Moss] on as an impeachment witness,” said California entertainment lawyer to the New York Post.
Moss will now be able to say “this never happened”, potentially ruining Heard’s credibility in the case.
Obviously Heard made the major mistake in thinking that every ex of a rich, famous man will automatically relish the opportunity for revenge against him in an organized MeToo witch hunt.
“Amber mentioned an ex of Johnny’s that clearly she felt was not supportive of him, which couldn’t be further from the truth,” a source told the Post.
Heard first mentioned the British model in the trial on May 5 when she said that during an alleged altercation with Depp which also involved her sister Whitney, she had remembered “Kate Moss and stairs” before striking her [then] husband supposedly to protect her sister against the actor’s alleged violent outbursts.
“[Whitney’s] back was to the staircase, and Johnny swings at her,’ Heard said. ‘I don’t hesitate, I don’t wait – I just, in my head, instantly think of Kate Moss and stairs.
“And I swung at him.”
Heard had previously referred to the incident during Depp’s defamation trial against The Sun newspaper in 2022. He was attempting to sue the British publication for calling him a “wife beater” but lost the case.
“I remembered information that I had heard [that] he pushed a former girlfriend- I believe it was Kate Moss – down the stairs,” said Heard.”
“I had heard this rumor from two people and it was fresh in my mind.”
But criminal defense attorneys say Heard’s team could attempt to say that she was merely using the alleged incident with Moss to convey her state of mind as she assaulted Depp.
Moss is set to testify on the third to last day of the lengthy 6 week hearing which will conclude this Friday.
