CNN’s new Chief Executive Officer Chris Licht really seems like he’s serious about rehabilitating his network’s image of being a left-wing propaganda machine, having told colleagues that he would prefer if his staff at the company would stop using the phrase “the big lie” when referring to former President Donald Trump’s claims of election fraud.
According to The Western Journal, Licht was asked during a meeting with management and show producers Tuesday for his thoughts on the “big lie,” to which he replied that he would prefer CNN staffers cease using the term when talking about the claims made by the former president.
He went on to explain that the usage of “the big lie” undermined the network’s objectivity due to the fact that journalists on the network were adopting phraseology from the Democratic Party. Licht then suggested that producers instead use phrases such as “Trump election lie” or “election lies” instead.
Well, I mean, that’s still going to undermine the network’s “objectivity” because it’s assuming that Trump’s claims are all lies. It’s still taking a left-leaning stance on an issue rather than being completely objective. If CNN actually wants to win people back to its viewership, it needs to stop trying to tell people how to think and just provide the facts.
We don’t need the spin. We are capable of thinking for ourselves.
“While Licht clarified during the meeting that his thoughts were a preference and not an order, CNN staffers have taken Chris’ comments seriously, Mediaite reported,” the Western Journal stated.
“It’s worrisome that we’re being told how to talk about one of the worst things that ever happened to American democracy,” an anonymous CNN staffer went on to tell Mediaite.
“We have to call lies, lies, whether they’re small lies or big lies. Is there any lie bigger than that lie?” the insider went on to say.
Another reason to refrain from the usage of this particular phrase is its connection with the Third Reich. Hitler employed the use of the term as part of his anti-semitic characterization of Jews living in Germany.
“CNN journalists and producers also used the term a lot, with the phrase appearing 168 times in June on the network, according to media monitoring service TVEyes, Mediaite reported,” the Western Journal revealed.
“CNN journalism under Zucker had been characterized by hot liberal opinionating that undermined the network’s brand, giving it the appearance of being a partisan outlet rather than an objective and factual news network,” the report from the Western Journal said.
“I would like to see CNN evolve back to the kind of journalism that it started with, and actually have journalists, which would be unique and refreshing,” Malone had stated back in a 2021 interview with CNBC.
“I do believe good journalism could have a role in this future portfolio that Discovery-TimeWarner’s going to represent,” Malone added later on in the interview.
“It seems to indicate where things are headed,” a CNN insider went on to tell the folks at Mediaite concerning the recent changes happening at the network. “We didn’t have this problem until John Malone was sitting on the board of this company.”
It is possible we will one day see CNN become an objective news source. It’s possible, but I don’t think it’s something we should hold our breath for.
