Let’s add another chapter to the “mess with the bull, get the horns” book in the great state of Florida.
After Disney decided to dance with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and lost in dramatic fashion, you’d think entities, corporations, etc would get a clue as to how to stay in the Florida governors good graces.
Guess not. Here’s the story per Fox News:
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis plans to veto a $35 million legislation for a Pasco County facility that’s earmarked for the Tampa Bay Rays’ spring training, OutKick has learned.
DeSantis’s decision is in response to the Rays politicizing recent shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde ahead of a matchup with the Yankees in May.
Ouch! That’s a lot of money! Apparently the Rays were looking to build a new spring training facility in neighboring Pasco county, but DeSantis said ‘nope’. Why did DeSantis make this decision? Probably this tweet from the Rays organization. Yea, definitely this tweet.

Baseball is ENTERTAINMENT. Sports are supposed to be a distraction from the ugliness of everyday life. Making a polarizing stance such as this on an issue like gun rights, especially in an America loving state like Florida is just inviting America’s greatest governor (my opinion), Ron DeSantis to shut you down.
The decision follows DeSantis’ response to Disney earlier this year. In April, DeSantis revoked Disney’s special tax and self-governing privileges after the company injected itself into the debate over a Florida parental rights law, inaccurately dubbed as “Don’t Say Gay.”
DeSantis is giving a voice to the people who do not want their sports and children’s companies on the front lines of the cultural divide.
I would assume most people DON’T want such things as their sports and their children involved in such debates. They absolutely shouldn’t be, anyway.
Must we permeate EVERY part of our culture with politics, dissension and disagreement? Do we have to push sexual agenda’s, leftist ideologies and politics on our kids? Ron DeSantis says no, and Florida is the better for it.
Florida residents had called for DeSantis to veto the spending anyway, saying that Floridians’ tax dollars should not help fund a facility for a professional sports team.
The Florida Senate has argued against this case, by listing the proposal as a “Sports Training and Youth Tournament Complex” and not mentioning the Rays. However, the Tampa Bay Times first reported the money would mostly help cover a new facility for the Rays.
Aha! Very sneaky by the Florida Senate to try to pass the cost of a new facility for the Rays on to the public by hiding it in a larger proposal. Hard to believe the government would be that shady!
Either way, certainly DeSantis isn’t’ happy about that aspect of the proposal either. Thankfully the Tampa Rays dipped their barbed tails into waters they probably shouldn’t have. Now Daddy DeSantis has to take them behind the woodshed and make them understand what “mess with the bull, get the horns” means in the state of Florida.
