A former Texas police officer learned that she would be spending the next 20 years of her life rotting away in federal prison after she was charged with sexually assaulting at least two teenage boys.
Crimes against children are deplorable. And that is truly an understatement. Honestly, I’m not so sure that 20 years is really enough time for such a crime. Then again, folks behind bars do not typically care much for those who sexually assault kids, so maybe there’s a lot more misery packed into that sentence than we can really ever know.
Delia Ruiz, a 31-year-old former police officer with the Friona Police Department, was handed her two-decade sentence by U.S. District Judge Matthew J. Kacsmaryk. Ruiz pleaded guilty to one count of enticement and attempted enticement of a minor back in January of this year.
According to TheBlaze, “According to the plea agreement, Ruiz admitted to having sexual intercourse with a 16-year-old boy in the fall of 2020. She continued the sexual relationship through spring 2021 – when the victim turned 17-years-old.”
Allegedly Ruiz then met another victim at the home of the first victim.
The report revealed that Ruiz stated she sent him what she called “flirtatious” messages on Facebook. The former police officer then told the boy that “she was going to take a shower,” and then tacked on a “winky face” emoji to the message, court documents said. She then admitted to having sex with a 15-year-old boy back in the spring of 2021.
This is just plain disgusting. Why would a woman do something like this, especially someone who used to be tasked with upholding the law?
“While in Ruiz’s vehicle, Ruiz and [John Doe 1] discussed him being a student at Bovina High School. Ruiz and Doe-l kissed and engaged in sexual activity in her vehicle. This occurred at least three times with the last being in June 2021,” the plea agreement goes on to say, according to a report published by Law & Crime. “From between approximately May to June 2021, Ruiz sent Doe-l flirtatious messages, as well as photographs of her breasts, vagina, and buttocks, and videos of herself masturbating.”
And things take a really deplorable turn from here. Apparently, Ruiz then lured the boy to a church parking lot in Bovina, Texas, to have sex with him. The depravity of doing this kind of act at this kind of location tells you everything you need to know about this woman.
“She sent the child flirtatious messages and arranged to meet him in a church parking lot for sex in her car on at least three occasions,” a press release put out by U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Chad E. Meacham went on to say. “She sent him sexually explicit photos and videos of herself and warned him not to tell anyone about what they did because she could get into ‘big trouble.’”
Federal authorities said that the former cop “sexually assaulted at least two teenage boys.”
Here are more details from TheBlaze report:
Ruiz allegedly sent explicit photographs and videos to a third victim – who was “16 or 17 years of age,” according to court docs.
The plea agreement states, “Ruiz described the reason she had not had sexual intercourse with Doe-3 was because she had not been afforded the opportunity.”
An investigation into Ruiz was launched by the Texas Rangers, Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Dallas Field Office – Lubbock Resident Agency, and the Amarillo Police Department. Following the investigation, Ruiz was arrested in October 2021. She was then fired from the Fiona Police Department.
Let’s all just be thankful that a sexual predator has been removed from the streets. Folks, be aware of who your kids are talking to online, on their phones, and especially on Facebook and other social media. Don’t let them become a statistic.
