The supposed “bi-partisan” gun safety bill reached the minimum vote it needed on Thursday to move forward to a final vote, thanks to the support of 14 Republicans who decided to abandon their principles to uphold the Second Amendment of the Constitution.
According to a report from Just the News, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer is now pushing for a final vote to be taken on Friday, which would be right before Congress adjourns for a two-week break.
“A bipartisan group of senators negotiated the gun bill after the May 24 mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, in which 19 children and two teachers were killed,” the report continued.
Just the News then revealed that “The rolling tally for the legislation, titled the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, was 62-28 at about 12:20 p.m. on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.”
The House of Representatives, also under the foul leadership of the Democratic Party, has already managed to pass a few gun control measures that, believe it or not, actually go further than the stuff packed into the Senate bill.
If, by the work of the devil, the legislation in the Senate passes, it too, would need to be passed by the House before moving on to President Joe Biden’s desk.
What people on the left just can’t seem to wrap their minds around is that getting rid of guns will not address the root cause of this kind of violence. There are limits to what legislation can accomplish. For example, we’ve already made murder illegal.
Yet that doesn’t stop people from killing each other.
Laws are there to ensure that society is able to function in a civilized manner. However, it cannot change the hearts of men and women. Nor can it repair damaged minds or ease the hurt and pain of abuse many kids who commit school shootings have experienced.
That requires a completely different kind of help that must be carried out by individuals in society. A gun is just a tool. When you slap restrictions on guns, what you are really doing is stripping away the rights of law abiding citizens to protect themselves and allowing the black market to continue raging out of control.
Bad guys can still get guns. Now good guys won’t have them.
That does not solve the problem.
In fact, it just causes a brand new one. You have more victims of violence, because, guess what? Bad guys don’t obey laws. That’s why they are bad guys. Sounds a lot like something Captain Obvious from those commercials would say, but it’s the truth.
This bill is probably going to pass, but we can still hope and pray that some miracle will happen and folks in Congress will open their eyes and not allow this piece of legislation to place further restrictions on owning a firearm. There are enough of those in existence already, and none of them have managed to stop these shootings from happening.
What makes the left think that this new bill is going to accomplish what the others could not?
