Donald Trump’s Republicans had a mixed bag of losses and victories in the GOP run-off elections last night.
He continued to suffer losses in Georgia’s run-off with former military pilot and current emergency room doctor Rich McCormick beating Jake Evans by 20 points for Atlanta’s 6th District.
Neither of the two had secured enough votes on the May 24 primary, resulting in the subsequent run-off.
Evans was endorsed by Trump and had called him a “MAGA warrior” in the run-up to the vote. McCormick meanwhile had the backing of Sen Ted Cruz and numerous congressional members including Reps. Jody Hice, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Buddy Carter.
The vote was a real conservative face-off, with both men accusing the other of not being MAGA enough. Trump held a tele-rally on Monday night to promote Evans.

“Jake has been a fearless defender of our Constitution,” said Trump.
“Jake risked his entire career — he took a big risk, his entire career actually — to fight for election integrity for Pennsylvania’s illegal and unconstitutional election law changes all the way to the United States Supreme Court.”
He added that Evans was a “MAGA warrior” and that he would do an “incredible job”.
“Jake will be your congressman. I think he will do an incredible job,’ the former president said Monday night. ‘The media’s been very tough on him.
“He’s a good person, he’s a great gentleman, and he’s got a great future, so I support Jake Evans,” he concluded.
Evans, who appeared on the campaign with Trump said that he would “fight for you, fight against the establishment” and accused McCormick of being “squishy” and “brought out by special interests”.
Vernon Jones, Trump’s preferred candidate for the 10th District of east Atlanta was also defeated by trucking company CEO, Mike Collins, whose website says he is “pro Trump” and that he wants to “get Donald Trump’s America First agenda back on track”.

Trump had previously persuaded Jones to abandon his bid to become governor in favor of Sen. David Perdue, but he lost to Rep. Gov. Brian Kemp who supported Jones.
But it wasn’t all bad news for the MAGA president, and he snatched a big win in Alabama as businesswoman Katie Britt toppled Rep. Mo Brooks, a six-term congressman, for the Senate nomination.
Brooks was an avid supporter of Trump’s and controversially gave a rallying speech before the storming of the US Capitol Building in 2021:
“Today is the day that American patriots start taking down names and kicking a**,” he said to crowds. But a year later, as Brooks suggested the party should “move on” from its loss to Biden, Trump said he had gone “woke”, perhaps prompting his backing of Britt.
She accused Brooks of being a career politician and said her socially conservative views would pave the way for a new era of Republicans:
“People want new blood. They want fresh blood,” she said to the press yesterday as she stood with her husband, former New England Patriot player Wesley Britt and their two children.
“They want someone that will go to D.C., fight for their values and fight for the hard-working people of Alabama”.
