Anyone remember two certain brain-dead animated teens in the 90’s? You know the guys, sat around all day watching music videos (remember those?), making dumb comments and generally getting into trouble?
While that might sound like some of our kids from back in the day, I’m instead referring to Beavis and Butthead. Creator Mike Judge had a huge hit with two miscreants and parlayed that success into a couple of Hollywood movies, and the animated show ‘King of the Hill’.
Well, Judge is back with a feature film starring his two original protagonists, Beavis and Butthead. Only this time they are taking pot shots at today’s woke society. Let’s see what Outkick says:
Mike Judge is always a half-dozen steps ahead of the culture.
Now, Judge is virtually alone in shredding the notion of White Privilege via his signature showcase. Yes, Judge both created “Beavis & Butt-head” and provides the voices for the two characters.
The film finds our “heroes” traveling through time and ending up in 2022 America. They marvel at smartphones, fall for Apple’s Siri voice assistant and end up on a modern college campus.
If you have ever seen two minutes of Beavis and Butthead, you have to be intrigued by the potential here. The boys in their original iteration had zero filter and even less awareness for what was happening around them.
This was easy enough to poke fun at in the 1990’s, but now? It’s a mine field out there for everyday folks, imagine how it is for Mike Judge.
Beavis and Butthead discover white privilege:

That’s where Judge flexes his satirical muscles.
“Cool,” Butthead says. They leave the classroom and wreak havoc by assuming their privilege will protect them.
It’s brilliant on two fronts. One is obvious – they’re using their so-called “privilege” for destructive purposes, satirizing the folly of the phrase. Their very existence, though, shreds the concept more aggressively. They’re poor, dumb kids from middle America. No parental figures teach them right from wrong. They spend hours staring at a TV screen, soaking in the worst of pop culture excess.
They lack privilege, full stop. It’s vintage Judge – poking fun at cultural elements others won’t go near.
Isn’t that how it really is for the vast majority of white people? Many of us grew up impoverished at worst, middle class at best. Where is the white privilege in needing free school lunch, or wearing hand me down clothes?
In short there isn’t. It isn’t real, and kudos to Judge for putting the woke left on blast.
The new “B&B” feature also lets Judge cling to the characters’ true nature. Yes, they’re morons, but their sexual cravings and ability to shock haven’t been dampened to appease our trigger-warning culture.
The original MTV shorts caught us off guard with their humor and dopey innocence. Judge’s lads were singularly focused on their own gratification, and nothing else. That nihilism landed in an era when comedy still had few official rules. Without it, the characters no longer resonate.
Folks, I NEVER thought I would say this, but Beavis and Butthead might save America.
We are starting to stack wins slowly, culturally speaking, but having characters as iconic as Beavis and Butthead giving us back the ability to be crude, politically incorrect, and actually laugh at blue humor is big.
I deleted the Paramount+ app from my phone and televisions after they hijacked my on-screen icons for the pride month rainbow, but I’ll be forgiving and reinstall it to see the new Beavis and Butthead.
I’d suggest everyone do the same, having cultural legends like Mike Judge attempting to buck the woke hypocrisy is too important.
