Supposed Republican U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger used a rather vile insult when he called out what he referred to as the “Christian Taliban” in a tweet he posted on Wednesday, going on to insist there’s no difference between Colorado Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert being “tired” of the separation of church and state and what the actual Taliban believes.
“I say this as a Christian,” Kinzinger went on to say, as if that somehow made his comment justified.
Tell me you don’t understand the separation of church and state, without actually saying you don’t understand the separation of church and state.
The concept of separation of church and state is actually not in the Constitution. The concept was termed as it is in a letter from Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptists and was never designed to keep faith out of politics. It was designed to prevent the federal government from picking one specific definition of Christianity as the official religion of the United States.
State governments, however, were allowed to do that if they so wish. In fact, if you go back and read through many state constitutions, you’ll find they have an official denomination of the Christian religion chosen to be that state’s expression of faith.
All that to say, Kinzinger doesn’t understand what he’s talking about.

TheBlaze reported, “The tweet from Kinzinger — a member of the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot — links to an article by The Hill noting Boebert’s words to the Cornerstone Christian Center in Basalt, Colo., on Sunday: ‘I’m tired of this separation of church and state junk — that’s not in the Constitution.’ She also said that the church is supposed to direct the government,’ The Hill added.”
Look, you can totally disagree with Boebert’s statement. However, to compare folks who want to see Christianity have an influence on their government to the Taliban is absurd and just plain outright stupid.
It’s a comment that smacks of ignorance and a lack of understanding. And I’m not the only one who finds it ridiculous.

- Conservative speaker Ian Haworth told the congressman, “Pretty sure the 8 year-old girls being raped by the Taliban right now would disagree.”
- Beth Baumann, formerly of TheBlaze, asked Kinzinger, “And when have Christians beheaded others?”
- The Washington Times tweeted, “CHUMLEY Adam Kinzinger stupidly calls out ‘Christian Taliban’ – https://go.shr.lc/3NrKSXW – @washtimes This is a manufactured lie from the left and now, RINO-ey Kinzinger, that ultimately, egregiously and stupidly skews America’s history.”
- “When did you convert to Christianity?” another user quipped. “I must have missed it.”
- “She’s more American than you are. I say this as an American,” another commenter said. “You’re out of line; you know damn well what the Taliban does.”
Kinzinger, seemingly eager to once again put his ignorance on full display, doubled down on his stance in a reply to the Washington Times tweet, saying, “It’s interesting. When the Taliban rose, we kept saying the ‘moderate Muslims’ need to speak out (I’m sure you did, too). I believe normal Christians need to call out Christian nationalism and the Christian Taliban. I can’t find anywhere [that] Jesus said that the [government] matters to him.”
The gospel is not just for personal salvation. It’s for the redemption of all God’s creation. How is that possible? Because God commands His people to apply the Word of God to every area of their lives. That would include politics.
In fact, God has a lot to say on just laws and politics, timeless principles that all those serving in government would be wise to study, understand, and apply to the issues of the day.
Believing that does not make one some sort of radical Christian terrorist.
