Janet Yellen, Treasury Secretary, recently made an appearance on Chuck Todd’s program, “Meet the Press,” where she insisted that the economy is not in a recession. Not because actual economic factors for a recession have not been met or because things are now drastically improving.
No, according to Yellen, we’re not in a recession because the definition of the term has been changed so it doesn’t actually mean what you think it means. Heck, the definition even transformed itself from what it meant at the start of the sentence she uttered to something else entirely by the end.
“A common definition of recession is two negative quarters of GDP growth, or at least that’s something that’s been true in past recessions, when we’ve seen that there has usually been a recession, and many economists expect second-quarter GDP to be negative, and first-quarter GDP was negative, so we could see that happen, but I do want to emphasize what a recession really means is a broad-based contraction in the economy, and even if that number is negative, we are not in a recession now, and, um, I would, you know, warn that we should be, um, not characterizing that as a recession,” Yellen stated during the interview with Todd.
“I understand that, but you’re splitting hairs. I mean, if the technical definition is two quarters of contraction, you’re saying that’s not a recession?” Todd then asked Yellen.
“That’s not the tech-, that’s not the technical definition,” Yellen kept insisting. “There’s an organization called the National Bureau of Economic Research that looks at a broad range of data in deciding whether or not there is a recession.”
“You know when Chuck Todd has to ask a follow-up question, you really stepped in it,” BlazeTV host Dave Rubin went on to say in response to Yellen’s interview.
Here’s a clip from the program so you can see this nonsense for yourself.
Is this not crazy talk? Do folks on the left really expect us to believe this garbage? You can’t just move the goal posts and then claim a victory after the field goal. That’s not how the real-world works, no matter how much magical political fairy dust you sprinkle on it.
By the way, political fairy dust doesn’t actually exist, though if I manufactured some and marketed the product to the gullible radicals on the left, I bet I could make a pretty penny, all by selling some sawdust in a special bedazzled baggie.
Anyway, when a leftist media hack actually has enough of a spark left in the paddles to shock some life back into his brain and begins to ask questions, clearly indicating that he’s not exactly on board with the liberal narrative, you know they have gone just a step too far.
Now, if only the vast majority of radical progressives would be able to see the scam being pulled on them by their political heroes, maybe we could still save this country.
But what are the chances of that actually happening? The magic eight ball says, “Not likely.”
