Biden’s food security expert who is set to give speeches at the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health appeared in propaganda documentaries that were produced by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
Ertharin Cousin, who is going to co-chair the White House event and was one of five experts personally selected by president Biden has continually praised the CCP.
In the 20-minute-long interview documentary about food production and agricultural methods, Cousins is the sole interviewee.
The film, entitled The Hunger Paradox, was produced by the CCP outlet China Global Television Network which is well-known for producing Chinese propaganda.
The network is, what Freedom House thinktank described as “a long-standing weapon in Beijing’s arsenal of repression” whose “mission is to attack designated enemies of the Communist Party.”
The clip lauds China’s approach to food production and claims that its methods should be “learned by the whole world” despite the nation’s continual breeding of zoonotic super-viruses including Avarian Influenza, Swine Influenza, Covid-19, and SARS as a direct result of its dire food hygiene levels.
“In China, agricultural reforms ensured most rural farmers had land to grow on, allowing them to be food self-sufficient. China’s poverty reduction efforts have contributed to 70 percent of the worldwide poverty reduction since the 1980’s,” the voice-over says. China’s history of famine during the Cultural Revolution in the 60s and 70s is not mentioned.
“One of the things I’ve heard you say, which I think is fascinating and true, is that policies do make a difference and you point to China. So many people lifted out of poverty, so many people hungry that now have meals, so policies do make a difference don’t they?” the host asks Cousins.
“Yes they do,” she replies, before going on to applaud the communist country’s Xi Jinping, who recently ordered military drills in the Taiwan Strait after Pelosi visited the island and has ordered increasingly oppressive laws against protestors in Hong Kong:
“You would often hear me use China as an example of a country that the world said would never feed itself. That it would always depend upon assistance from the global community because 50 years ago, China was WFP’s largest recipient, and that all evolved to the point where President Xi now says that he will eradicate poverty by the end of 2020.”
In 2016, Cousin, who was Ambassador to the United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture under Barack Obama, gave further praise for China’s food policies.
Speaking to another Chinese state-run media outlet, Xinhua, said that China has “created significant lessons for the world and established a true benchmark for what the world can achieve.”
As recently as 2021, Cousins tripled down on her love for Chinese policy. At a conference in July of that year, she praised the CCP and said that “despite the fact that some 60 years ago, the world said China would never be able to feed itself, not only does it feed itself today, but it is also a donor country, supporting food access across the globe for developing countries.”
