FNC’s Greg Gutfeld has an interesting segment yesterday in which Jimmy Failla, the host of “Fox Across America”, went on a tear against the body positivity movement and argued that because many children who are obese don’t know they are, they need to be bullied to lose weight.
Specifically, Failla, discussing the obesity problem and so-called body positivity movement with Gutfeld, declared that “bullying serves a purpose” in whipping overweight kids into shape, saying:
“The whole thing about body positivity is — they are getting people killed. I don’t mean to get all serious but if you look at Covid, obesity was the leading cause of death from Covid. And what did we do to encourage people to get the vaccine? We gave them a Krispy Kreme doughnut. You know what I mean? Kind of insane.
“And I am always on the side of tough love. Yes, I want people to feel accepted in their bodies but there is a study out and I want you to think about this. That 40% of elementary school children are obese but they don’t know they are obese. That’s what happens when you eliminate bullying. You know what I mean? Listen to me. Bullying serves a purpose.”
It’s an argument the left will hate but that many on the right-leaning “vitalism” sphere will agree with, and thus surely sent the blue hairs into an anger overdrive because he’s not mindlessly chanting “healthy at every weight”.
And this sort of discussion seems to be an issue that Gutfeld cares about, or is at least willing to entertain, as he and the Federalist’s Mollie Hemmingway discussed the problem with body posivity too recently, making fun of Lizzo’s claim to be oppressed during the recent MTV VMA ceremony. It was during that ceremony that Lizzo, the morbidly obese pop star who’s one of the main figures in the body positivity movement, said “And now, to the b****es that got something to say about me in this dress — You know what? I’m not going to say nothing. They be like ‘Lizzo, why don’t you clap back? Why don’t you clap back?’ Because b**** this is winning ho!.”
Making fun of her during a Gutfeld appearance, Hemmingway joked that “I actually do like her a little bit. She’s a talented singer, she’s, but the only thing that is oppressing her is her arteries, and… “
Gutfeld then jumped in and built off Hemmingway’s joke about Lizzo’s arteries, saying “Somebody’s going to pay the price.”
Hemmingway responded by firing off yet another joke, saying “Health is important…and we should respect everybody else, but it’s actually just unhealthy. It’s like obesity porn.”
Maybe it’s just a coincidence. But it’s interesting seeing multiple Gutfeld guests bang the drums and warning about the health issue, an issue that’s certainly important but that many figures ignore because of how touchy it is, particularly compared to partisan political issues.
