Earlier in the month of August, the European Union put out a proposal with the idea in mind of reviving the disastrous and just plain stupid 2015 Iran nuclear deal. The very same one that saw former President Barack Obama sending pallets of cash to the America-hating nation, assuming they would be keeping their word not to use the money as a means of whipping up nuclear weapons.
I mean, how can someone not think that sending a ton of taxpayer dollars to a nation that routinely takes to the streets and chants, “death to America” is a horrific idea? Doesn’t that seem like a no-brainer to you?
According to TheBlaze, Reuters issued a report on Monday stating that the E.U.’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, has said that he is hoping the U.S. will respond to the proposal sometime this week.
Given the idiocy of the current administration, I wouldn’t be surprised to see an affirmation of the proposal, despite the fact it will place our allies in the Middle East region — like Israel for example — in direct harm from potential nuclear attacks carried out by Iran. It’s a safe bet the government of Iran is not interested in simply using this cash for any other purpose.
Here’s more from TheBlaze:
Under the 2015 plan, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran agreed to significantly cut back its controversial uranium enrichment program. The E.U., U.S., and other signatories were concerned that the program could be a possible pathway for Iran to build to nuclear weapons. In return, Iran was granted relief from international sanctions. Iran has denied any ambitions to build nuclear weapons and says it wants nuclear power only for peaceful purposes.
In May 2018, then-President Donald Trump abandoned the JCPOA, calling it “defective at its core.” Trump reinstated all U.S. sanctions on Iran as part of campaign to compel Iran to negotiate a replacement agreement that would further restrict its military efforts, according to the BBC.
Borrell said that Iran had given a “reasonable” response to the new proposal. “There was a proposal from me as coordinator of the negotiations saying, ‘This is the equilibrium we reached, I don’t think we can improve it on one side or the other’… and there was a response from Iran that I considered reasonable,” Borrell said at an event in Spain.
Borrell went on to say that the proposal “was transmitted to the United States which has not yet responded formally… I hope the response will put an end to the negotiations.”
Media outlet Al Jazeera has reported that the stockpile of enriched uranium in Iran’s possession is sitting at 60 percent enriched, which is the highest that it’s ever been and way, way higher than the 3.67 percent limit placed by the JCPOA.
Iran is inching ever closer to possessing what’s needed to build a nuclear bomb, which requires uranium at 90 percent enrichment.
Just imagine Iran having nuclear weapons in their possession. There is absolutely no good that can come out of this, folks. None. Especially for Israel and our other allies in the Middle East region.
Just last week, Mohammad Marandi, an adviser for Iran’s negotiating team, went on to say that “We’re closer than we’ve been before” to locking down a deal, revealing that the “remaining issues are not very difficult to resolve.”
“On August 10, the United States charged a member of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps with plotting to murder John Bolton, a national security adviser to Trump. According to Reuters, U.S. official do not believe the charges should affect the nuclear talks with Tehran,” TheBlaze reported.
As of this writing, the European Union has not made the proposal public.
