Former President Donald Trump, just two days after having his home in Florida raided by the FBI, stated that he invoked the Fifth Amendment in order to avoid answering any questions in the current probe being led by Democratic New York Attorney General Letitia James.
Trump, according to Just the News, was subpoenaed to testify on Wednesday in the New York AG’s current investigation into the Trump family and the Trump Organization’s business practices.
“[U]under the advice of my counsel and for all of the above reasons, I declined to answer the questions under the rights and privileges afforded to every citizen under the United States Constitution,” he went on to write in a statement on Truth Social.
A little later in the statement, Trump went on to provide an outline of all the various ways that James has attacked him over the course of recent years.
“James developed a political platform and made a career out of maliciously attacking me and my business before she was even elected or reviewed one of the millions of pages of documents we willingly produced,” he wrote.
According to a story from Fox News:
Donald Trump is the last member of the family to be deposed. Ivanka Trump and Don Jr. were deposed earlier this month. All three depositions were expected to take place last month, but Trump’s lawyers had asked for a delay in light of the passing of Trump’s first wife and the mother of his 3 eldest children Ivana Trump on July 14. The depositions had been scheduled to take place the next day.
This was yet another delay after a months-long battle in courts to stall and avoid the AG’s office efforts to interrogate them.
Trump is currently spending his summer days between his Bedminster golf estate and Trump Tower. Trump arrived back in New York City on Tuesday night.A lawyer for Trump did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The AG’s office did not confirm nor deny the information and declined to comment.
The financial dealings that the attorney general think could possibly be fraudulent include properties such as Trump’s estate Seven Springs in Westechester, New York, 40 Wall Street, and the residence where he lives inside Trump Tower in New York City.
Attorney for Letitia James, Kevin Wallace, went on to say in court that the office “would likely need to bring some kind of enforcement action in the near future.”
Ever since all of this mess started, the former president has been consistent in saying he did nothing wrong, referring to the attacks on him as a “witch hunt.”
And that’s exactly what it’s been. There’s no real reason for any of this other than trying to find something, anything, that will stick and disqualify him from being the commander in chief should he run in 2024. It’s all politically motivated.
The radical left is terrified of Trump and those who support him. They know that if folks are consistent in the application of their political beliefs when they hit the polls in 2024, there will be no chance of the left pulling in a victory.
